MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran has taken a toll on global tourism, with North Sumatra (Sumut) feeling the impact. The war has disrupted air travel in the Middle East, leading to a decline in tourist arrivals in the province.
According to Yulhendry, Director of Ravelino Tour and Travel, the conflict has affected flight schedules, with several tourists canceling or postponing their trips to Sumut.
"The disruption of flights in the Middle East, particularly in Dubai and Jeddah, has impacted the capacity of airlines to transport passengers, resulting in reduced flight schedules," Yulhendry said on Monday, April 6, 2026, at his office.

Despite the challenges, Yulhendry sees an opportunity for North Sumatra to boost its tourism industry. He believes that Kuala Namu Airport, with its strategic location, can become a major international hub.

"If managed professionally, Kuala Namu can attract international airlines and increase tourist arrivals, benefiting the local economy," he said.
North Sumatra is home to several popular tourist destinations, including Lake Toba and Bukit Lawang, and has much more to offer. With effective management and infrastructure development, the province can capitalize on its natural beauty and cultural heritage to attract more visitors. (IDNC)
