Medan Secures Six-Year WTP Record as Rico Waas Presents 2025 Financial Report

MEDAN CITY GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS WTP ACHIEVEMENT ONCE AGAIN: Medan Mayor Rico Waas presents the 2025 APBD accountability report during a plenary session of the Medan City Council at the council building on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – Mayor of Medan, Rico Waas, formally presented the draft regional regulation (Ranperda) on the accountability report for the implementation of the 2025 Regional Budget (APBD) during a plenary session of the Medan City Council (DPRD Kota Medan). The session was held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the DPRD Medan building.

The meeting was officially chaired by Council Speaker Wong Chun Sen, and attended by all deputy speakers and council members, alongside senior officials from the Medan municipal government.

Strengthening Financial Governance and Accountability

In his address, Mayor Rico Waas emphasized that the submission of the accountability report represents a fundamental pillar of local fiscal governance. He also expressed appreciation for the timely coordination between the council leadership and its advisory bodies in scheduling the session.

He noted that regional autonomy grants local governments broad financial authority, but also imposes strong obligations to uphold transparency, efficiency, and sustainable development.

"Each region, under the framework of autonomy, holds financial rights and responsibilities managed through the APBD cycle. The goal is to foster development, strengthen innovation, and sustainably improve public welfare," he stated.

Comprehensive and Transparent Financial Reporting

The mayor further explained that the 2025 financial reporting process follows Government Regulation No. 12 of 2019. The accountability report includes key financial documents such as budget realization reports, balance sheets, operational statements, cash flow reports, and other supporting appendices.

Financial statements from three municipal-owned enterprises were also consolidated into the report, ensuring full transparency and traceability of public funds.

Six Consecutive Years of WTP Achievement

Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan (BPK) once again awarded the City of Medan an Unqualified Opinion (Wajar Tanpa Pengecualian/WTP) for the 2025 fiscal year.

This marks a significant milestone, as Medan has now achieved the WTP status for six consecutive years—an indicator of consistent integrity and sound financial management.

"This achievement reflects that the 2025 financial administration has been conducted in a high-quality, transparent manner in accordance with applicable accounting standards," said Rico Waas.

Steady Economic Growth and Fiscal Performance

Throughout 2025, Medan recorded continued economic progress. Regional revenue exceeded IDR 6.3 trillion, while expenditures stood at approximately IDR 5.8 trillion.

The city's economy grew by 5.10 percent, with the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reaching IDR 353.28 trillion. Inflation remained stable at 4.36 percent.

Rico Waas urged all stakeholders to use these achievements as a foundation for further improvements in public financial management.

"The progress achieved should serve as motivation to address remaining weaknesses and continue improving the quality of life for residents," he added.

Following the presentation, the mayor officially submitted the draft regulation to the council speaker. Further deliberations will continue in upcoming plenary sessions. (IDNC)
