MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM – The Provincial Government of North Sumatra marked the 2026 National Education Day (Hardiknas) and the Education Expo 2026 at the Astaka Complex, Youth and Sports Office area in Deli Serdang, on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The event highlighted Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution's strong commitment to continuously improving teachers' welfare, particularly through better salary structures.
Commitment to Annual Teacher Salary Growth
Governor Bobby Nasution emphasized that the North Sumatra provincial government will prioritize education funding to improve teachers' compensation. He instructed the regional education authority to ensure a structured and sustainable annual increase in teacher salaries.

The policy particularly targets teachers under the Pegawai Pemerintah dengan Perjanjian Kerja (PPPK) scheme, especially part-time contract teachers, as well as non-permanent teachers (GTT).
Previously, the provincial government had raised the monthly salary for part-time PPPK teachers to around IDR 2 million. In addition, hourly compensation for GTT teachers has been set at IDR 90,000 per teaching hour.

Beyond teacher welfare, Bobby Nasution also stressed the importance of modern and adequate education infrastructure. He noted that proper facilities are essential to strengthen students' competitiveness at both national and international levels.
"I entrust our children to the teachers. They must be properly educated. The provincial government ensures that learning facilities are sufficient so that students remain competitive and are prepared for the Ministry of Education's deep learning approach," he said.
Education Expo 2026 and New Programs Introduced

Following the Hardiknas ceremony, the provincial government continued the agenda with a three-day Education Expo 2026. The event introduced several key programs, including the free education initiative "Bersekolah Gratis", the signing of cooperation agreements with industry and business partners, and the launch of the Sumber Disdik application.
These initiatives aim to strengthen the link between vocational school (SMK) graduates and the labor market.
"We hope this will ease the transition of SMK students into the industry," Bobby added.
According to the North Sumatra Education Office, the event is expected to attract around 15,000 visitors over three days. The expo features exhibitions, cultural performances, competitions such as band contests and esports tournaments (Mobile Legends), as well as performances by national artist Idgitaf.

The event was attended by various regional leaders and education stakeholders, including North Sumatra DPRD Chairperson Erni Ariyanti Sitorus, Vice Governor Surya, acting Provincial Secretary Sulaiman Harahap, as well as students from Medan and surrounding areas. (IDNC)
