ACEH BESAR | INDATANEWS.COM - Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) has officially handed over hundreds of students participating in the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN – Community Service Program) to the Aceh Besar Regency Government. The students will carry out various programs aimed at supporting and developing local communities across several districts and Gampong (villages). The handover ceremony was held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Aceh Besar Dekranasda Building in Gampong Gani, Ingin Jaya District.
The event marked the beginning of the USK students' community service phase among local residents. Over the coming weeks, the students will apply the knowledge they have gained at the university through various community empowerment programs while working together with village administrations to support regional development.Aceh Besar Regent's Expert Staff for Administration, Law, and Politics, Fata Muhammad, S.Pd.I., M.M., who represented Aceh Besar Regent H. Muharram Idris, appreciated USK's decision to once again select Aceh Besar as a location for the KKN program.
"We welcome the KKN students who will carry out their community service activities in Aceh Besar Regency. We thank the USK Rector for choosing Aceh Besar once again as a place for learning and serving the community," he said.According to Fata Muhammad, the KKN program provides an effective platform for connecting the academic world with the real needs of society. Through this program, students have the opportunity to understand various challenges at the grassroots level and offer solutions based on scientific knowledge and academic studies.
He emphasized that direct interaction with the community provides students with valuable experiences, allowing them not only to possess theoretical knowledge but also to understand social dynamics at the Gampong level."KKN is an opportunity for students to learn directly from the community while implementing the knowledge they have acquired at university. Hopefully, students will gain a broader understanding of social conditions and be able to develop useful solutions in the future," he explained.

In his view, the success of the KKN program does not solely depend on students' academic abilities but also on their ability to adapt to the social environment and respect the cultural values and local traditions of each Gampong.
"Maintain the good name of Universitas Syiah Kuala. Build good communication with the community, respect local traditions, and become part of the community during your service period," said Fata Muhammad.During the KKN program, students will conduct various community empowerment activities in sectors including education, health, environmental awareness, economic development, and strengthening local potential. These programs are expected to create tangible impacts and encourage sustainable development at the Gampong level.
Fata Muhammad also expressed hope that cooperation between the Aceh Besar Regency Government and Universitas Syiah Kuala would continue to expand through various partnership programs that provide direct benefits to the community."Through the spirit of service and community empowerment, USK KKN students are expected to become part of the solution to various challenges at the Gampong level while strengthening the role of universities as strategic partners in the development of Aceh Besar," he said.
On the same occasion, Vice Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Prof. Dr. Heru Fahlevi, S.E., M.Sc., Ak., CA, stated that the KKN program is not merely an academic obligation. According to him, KKN serves as a platform for character development and a means of strengthening students' roles as agents of change in society.
He encouraged students to take advantage of this opportunity for personal growth and to make their best contribution through innovative programs that respond to community needs."Use this opportunity not only to improve literacy within society but also as a moment for us to become better individuals as agents of change," said Heru Fahlevi.
He expressed hope that all students would be able to carry out their work programs optimally so that the benefits could be directly felt by communities in their respective service locations."May this activity run successfully and provide students with the opportunity to serve and deliver their best contributions to society," he added.
The implementation of Universitas Syiah Kuala's KKN program in Aceh Besar once again highlights the importance of collaboration between universities and regional governments in supporting community development. Through an engagement-based approach, students are expected to produce relevant innovations according to community needs while strengthening development capacity at the Gampong level.The handover ceremony was attended by several district heads, academic supervisors, KKN coordinators, and hundreds of Universitas Syiah Kuala students who will conduct their community service activities in various areas across Aceh Besar Regency.
