DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deputy Regent of Deli Serdang, Lom Lom Suwondo, has expressed his appreciation for the implementation of a cultural heritage and tourism photography competition organized by the Office of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism of Deli Serdang Regency. He emphasized that the event is not merely a contest, but a strategic instrument to promote regional potential through creative and informative visual works.
The photography competition, according to the regional government, is expected to produce works that serve not only as visual documentation but also as an effective medium for marketing the region's cultural and natural wealth at local, national, and international levels.
The Deputy Regent also underlined that Deli Serdang possesses diverse historical and cultural heritage as well as tourism destinations that play a significant role in shaping the region's identity. These values, he said, are valuable assets that must be protected, preserved, and sustainably maintained for future generations.
Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo further stressed that the photography competition is part of the regional government's efforts to strengthen public awareness and participation in preserving heritage sites and developing the tourism sector.
"This cultural heritage photography competition is one of our efforts to encourage public awareness and participation so that people better understand, protect, and showcase the cultural heritage and tourism potential of Deli Serdang Regency," he said after announcing the winners at the amphitheater on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
He added that in the digital era, photography plays a powerful role in conveying messages. A single photograph can reach thousands to millions of people within a short time through digital platforms. Therefore, visual works showcasing the nature, culture, and historical values of Deli Serdang are highly effective in building a positive regional image.

In this context, the Deputy Regent highlighted the importance of digital media as a tool for tourism promotion. Technological development has transformed the way people discover a region, with visual content increasingly taking center stage.
He noted that the photographs produced by participants contribute significantly to introducing Deli Serdang's tourism potential to a global audience. Moreover, these visual documents can serve as valuable archival material for the future development of the cultural and tourism sectors.
Lom Lom Suwondo also stated that this initiative aligns with Deli Serdang Regency's vision of becoming a healthy, educated, prosperous, religious, and sustainable region. The tourism and creative economy sectors, he said, play a strategic role in driving economic growth.
He emphasized that the development of creative sectors such as photography can open new opportunities for the community, particularly for young people, to actively contribute to regional development through artistic and economically valuable works.
"I hope this event will continue annually and involve more participants from various segments of society," he said, while congratulating the competition winners. He also expressed hope that the works produced would strengthen public awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage as a source of identity and pride for the region.

The Deputy Regent also visited the exhibition of participants' works on site, where he praised the creativity of photographers who captured cultural sites and tourism attractions in Deli Serdang from unique perspectives.
He noted that each work not only demonstrated strong aesthetic value but also contained important historical and educational significance for the public.
