BALI | INDATANEWS.COM - Indonesian national karateka and student of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at Universitas Sumatera Utara (Fasilkom TI USU), Leica Al Humaira Lubis, has achieved a remarkable sporting milestone. At the Asian Senior Karate Championship 2026, held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Bali, she secured the gold medal, further cementing her reputation as one of Indonesia's most promising young karate talents on the international stage.

Leica delivered a convincing and confident performance from the opening rounds. Maintaining consistent form, she advanced steadily to the final while eliminating several high-caliber opponents from different countries. One of the most notable moments came in the early rounds when she defeated Arika Gurung, who is ranked 10th in the world. The victory was widely regarded as one of the tournament's biggest upsets, highlighting Leica's ability to compete against elite-level athletes.

Final Showdown Control

In the final, Leica faced Jordanian karateka Nara Yaser. The match started intensely and remained closely contested, but Leica managed to dictate the pace and deliver decisive scoring actions throughout the bout. She ultimately secured a commanding 6–3 victory, clinching the gold medal.

Following the match, Leica expressed gratitude for her achievement, attributing her success to disciplined training and strong determination.

"I am deeply grateful to have won this title for Indonesia, Universitas Sumatera Utara, my family, coaches, and all supporters. The final was highly competitive, but I tried to stay focused until the end," she said on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Discipline and Continuous Development

Leica emphasized that her victory was not achieved overnight, but rather the result of long-term dedication and disciplined training. She noted that international tournaments have provided her with valuable experience, contributing significantly to both her mental and technical development.

She further added that this achievement motivates her to continue improving and aim for even higher targets in future competitions. "Competing against athletes from different countries is a valuable experience. I hope this success inspires young people to be courageous and to compete at the international level," she stated.

University Leadership Recognition

Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si, praised the athlete's achievement, emphasizing that Leica's success demonstrates USU students' competitiveness not only in academics but also in international sports arenas.

"We congratulate Leica on her gold medal at the Asian Karate Championship in Bali. This achievement is not only a personal and family pride but also an honor for Indonesia and Universitas Sumatera Utara at the international level," the Rector said.

He further stressed that USU continues to support the development of student talents through various training programs and opportunities to participate in both national and international competitions.

Previously, Leica Al Humaira Lubis had also won a gold medal at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games, further strengthening her reputation as an outstanding karateka at both Southeast Asian and Asian levels. (IDNC)
