TEACHER ARRESTED IN CHILD PROTECTION: A primary school teacher from Labuhanbatu Selatan, identified as ANS, was arrested following an investigation into allegations involving a student.

LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ A case involving a school teacher in Labuhanbatu Selatan, North Sumatra, has drawn public attention after authorities handled allegations of inappropriate conduct in a child protection case. A 33-year-old elementary school teacher identified by the initials ANS has been arrested after previously being listed as a wanted suspect.

The case highlights the importance of strengthening child protection systems in educational environments to ensure schools remain safe and supportive spaces for children.

The incident allegedly occurred on Friday, August 22, 2025, at around 08:30 local time at a state elementary school in Kotapinang District. The case involved a 9-year-old student identified as AR.

The situation came to light after information from a community member prompted the child's parent, MS (30), to communicate with her child in a careful and child-friendly manner regarding the report she had received.

The child later provided information about her experience. Following this, the family reported the matter to the school and authorities for further handling.

Police Follow-Up and Search for Suspect

The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police immediately conducted an investigation by interviewing relevant parties and collecting supporting evidence, including CCTV recordings.

During the process, the suspect left the area and was subsequently placed on the wanted list.

"After receiving the report, we carried out an investigation and the suspect was later declared a wanted person due to his absence during the process," said Police Spokesperson AKP Sujono.

After several months, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at a residential area in Green City, Sukaraja Village, Air Putih District, Batubara Regency. The arrest was carried out without resistance.

Legal Process and Child Protection Priority

Authorities confirmed that the suspect has undergone questioning and admitted to the allegations. Investigators also secured several pieces of evidence, including CCTV recordings relevant to the case.

The suspect is being processed under Article 418 paragraph (2) letter B of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) in accordance with Law No. 1/2023.

Officials emphasized that child protection is the main priority in the handling of the case.

"We ensure that the child receives protection and appropriate assistance throughout the legal process. The safety and wellbeing of children remain our primary concern," AKP Sujono stated.

The police have also conducted a medical examination and are preparing the case files for further legal proceedings.
