LABUHANBATU SELATAN POLICE URGE RESIDENTS TO HELP PREVENT SECURITY DISTURBANCES: The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police held a community meeting on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, in the assembly hall of the Asam Jawa Village Administrative Office in Torgamba District to strengthen public participation and prevent potential security disturbances at an early stage.

LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The police in Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency have called on residents to strengthen their vigilance and sense of responsibility for their neighbourhoods to prevent disturbances to public safety and order at an early stage. The police stressed that open communication and active public participation are essential to creating a safe, orderly and peaceful environment.

The appeal was made during a police-community engagement event held in the assembly hall of the Asam Jawa Village Administrative Office in Torgamba District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency, on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. The event aimed to strengthen communication and partnerships between the police, local authorities and residents to prevent potential security disturbances in their respective neighbourhoods.

The event was led by Labuhanbatu Selatan Deputy Police Chief Police Commissioner Moch. Guntur Pryantoko, S.H., M.H., representing the regency's Police Chief, Senior Police Commissioner Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR. He was accompanied by Public Relations Unit Head Police Commissioner Sujono and Second Inspector Supriadi, who is responsible for operational planning within the Community Policing Unit.

Also attending the meeting were Ruli Tamba, Secretary of Torgamba District; Hendra Kusbandi, acting head of Asam Jawa Village; and local residents.

The gathering provided the police, district administration, village administration and community members with an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and improve cooperation in maintaining public safety and order. Beyond fostering personal connections, direct communication enabled residents to raise information, concerns and problems that could potentially affect public order.

Community Participation Helps Prevent Security Disturbances

Through his deputy, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief emphasised that residents play an important role in maintaining public safety and order. Cooperation between the police and the community can strengthen awareness of local conditions and help identify potential threats early, before they develop into more serious problems.

"The police cannot maintain safety and order alone. Public support and participation are essential to ensuring that the security situation remains safe and stable. Therefore, we must continue to strengthen our solidarity, maintain communication and encourage a sense of responsibility for our respective neighbourhoods," the Police Chief said in a message delivered by his deputy.

The message underlined that preventive measures require the involvement of all sections of society. Residents who are familiar with the conditions in their neighbourhoods can help improve vigilance and inform the police when they notice situations that could threaten public safety.

A sense of responsibility for the local environment can also be strengthened through good relationships between neighbours, regular communication with village officials and cooperation with police officers. Such measures encourage collective preparedness without waiting for an actual security incident to occur.

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also urged residents not to ignore problems that could disrupt public order. Community members can use the police's available communication channels to report information or submit complaints. The relevant officers can then address these matters within their authority and in accordance with established procedures.

Closer Police-Community Ties Strengthen Prevention

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief also highlighted that police engagement with the community should extend beyond maintaining security. Officers must listen to residents' concerns, build personal relationships and provide approachable, responsive and people-centred services.

This approach can strengthen public trust while enabling more effective communication between residents and law enforcement. When people feel comfortable sharing information or raising complaints, the police can gain a better understanding of the problems and developments affecting individual neighbourhoods.

Through the meeting in Asam Jawa Village, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also reinforced cooperation with the district and village administrations. Coordination between the relevant parties is necessary to identify local problems at an early stage, improve vigilance and establish appropriate preventive measures based on community needs.

Local authorities and residents can support these efforts by maintaining regular dialogue. Community members should also alert one another to potential dangers, foster harmonious relationships with their neighbours and promptly contact the relevant authorities if they identify signs of a threat to public safety.

Open communication allows residents to raise concerns while problems are still at an early stage. Meanwhile, responding to community concerns promptly and appropriately helps the police better understand residents' needs. In this way, relationships between the police and the public are built not only when problems arise, but also through regular cooperation to maintain public order.

Promoting Vigilance and Responsibility in Local Neighbourhoods

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police called on residents to preserve social cohesion, remain vigilant and contact the police promptly if potential security disturbances arise in their neighbourhoods.

The appeal placed residents at the centre of local prevention efforts, recognising them as important partners. By paying attention to what happens around them, sharing relevant information and cooperating with law enforcement and local authorities, community members can make a valuable contribution to maintaining public safety.

However, vigilance must always go hand in hand with responsible handling of information. Residents are encouraged to submit reports through the designated channels and avoid spreading unverified information, which could cause unnecessary concern within the community.

The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police expressed hope that cooperation between the police, district administration, village administration and residents would provide a solid foundation for safe, orderly and harmonious community life. Maintaining public safety is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement; it also requires a tangible contribution from every section of society.

According to the police, the situation remained safe and orderly throughout the event. The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police and residents expressed their commitment to continuing to work together to maintain public safety and order. They also pledged to act responsibly, work swiftly, intelligently and consistently, and carry out their duties with integrity.

Through the "Police Together with the Community" programme, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police hope to expand open dialogue with residents and strengthen their sense of responsibility for their neighbourhoods. The partnership is expected to help prevent potential security disturbances at an early stage and sustainably improve the community's sense of safety. (IDNC)
