JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - Jambi Provincial Police Chief Inspector General Widodo has urged the public to take an active role in keeping their neighbourhoods safe, preventing drug trafficking and using the police emergency number 110. He made the appeal during an early-morning community gathering as part of the Subuh Keliling programme at Jami Ass'adah Mosque in Thehok, Jambi Selatan District, Jambi City, on Friday, 16 October 2026.
The event gave the Jambi Police Chief an opportunity to engage with worshippers and introduce himself as the new head of the provincial police force. Through direct interaction with the community, he encouraged residents to maintain close communication with the police and work together to safeguard security and public order. Also attending the event were Jambi Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General K. Yani Sudarto, Jambi Provincial Police Director of Community Policing Chief Commissioner Henky Poerwanto, and Jambi City Police Chief Chief Commissioner Ananto Herlambang. Numerous local residents and worshippers from Jami Ass'adah Mosque were also present.
After the dawn prayer, Widodo delivered several messages on public safety. He reminded residents to remain alert to developments in their neighbourhoods, protect their health when smoke pollution intensifies and support police efforts to prevent potential security disturbances."We urge the public to remain vigilant when smoke pollution intensifies at certain times and to wear masks when carrying out activities outside the home to protect their health," he said.
The message highlighted the importance of paying attention to environmental conditions that could affect public health. Residents were also encouraged to monitor developments in their neighbourhoods and take preventive measures when air quality deteriorates.Alongside smoke pollution, Widodo addressed drug trafficking, stressing that tackling the problem requires the attention and participation of the entire community. He urged residents not to remain passive if they encountered indications of drug abuse or trafficking in their neighbourhoods.
Inspector General Widodo said public participation could help the police identify potential security problems at an early stage. Residents can provide information about suspicious activities involving illegal drugs, allowing the relevant officers to investigate the reports in accordance with applicable laws.Prevention depends on effective communication and cooperation between the public and the police. A shared sense of responsibility can help restrict opportunities for drug trafficking and foster a safer community environment.

"Through this morning gathering under the Subuh Keliling programme, we aim to strengthen our relationship with the community while encouraging all sections of society to work together to maintain a safe and stable public security and order situation. If residents need police assistance or identify a security disturbance, they can contact the free emergency number 110. We will follow up on reports in accordance with the applicable procedures," Inspector General Widodo said.
The 110 emergency number provides a communication channel through which residents can submit reports or request police assistance. The service makes it easier for the public to contact the police, particularly for those who need help but cannot initially visit a police station in person. When using the service, residents should provide information clearly and responsibly. Details about the location, time and nature of an incident can help officers assess a report accurately and determine the appropriate response.
The police, in turn, must ensure that incoming reports receive proper attention. Responding in accordance with established procedures can strengthen public trust and encourage residents to use official reporting channels when security problems arise.
Inspector General Widodo also invited residents to share proposals, suggestions and information about security conditions in Jambi City. He said effective communication between the police and the public was an important part of creating a safe and comfortable living environment.
Through direct exchanges, residents have an opportunity to raise their concerns with the police. At the same time, officers can gain a better understanding of community needs and obtain information about potential security problems in individual neighbourhoods. The Subuh Keliling programme also gives the police an opportunity to build closer relationships with residents through a community-oriented approach. Gatherings associated with shared religious activities provide space for direct dialogue, the communication of public safety messages and the strengthening of a collective sense of responsibility for neighbourhood security.
Jambi Provincial Police uses such events to deepen its relationship with the public, strengthen trust and encourage residents to play an active role in maintaining public order. The police hope that sustained cooperation will contribute to a stable and secure situation throughout Jambi City.Community participation, vigilance against drug trafficking, protection from the health effects of smoke pollution and the use of official reporting channels are important elements of joint efforts to maintain security. Through this cooperation, the police and the public aim to create a safer, healthier and more comfortable living environment for all residents. (IDNC)
