MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ Mayor Rico Waas has praised the Medan City Government following its achievement of two national awards, received ahead of the 30th Regional Autonomy Day celebration held at Medan City Hall on Monday, April 27, 2026.

The recognition came after the reading of a speech by Indonesia's Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian.

In his remarks, Waas emphasized that the achievements were the result of collective efforts across all levels of the municipal government, including regional work units (OPD), sub-district heads, village leaders, and civil servants throughout Medan.

"This is not an individual accomplishment, but the result of teamwork," Waas stated, expressing appreciation for the dedication and collaboration shown by all stakeholders involved in public service delivery.

Digital Transformation and Creative Financing Drive Success

Medan earned recognition as an "Excellent City in Digital Public Services Transformation," and also secured second place in the "Creative Financing" category among 154 cities and regencies in Sumatra.

These achievements were driven by the implementation of the Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE), including initiatives such as Smart Tax and Electronic Regional Government Transactions (ETPD), which have improved transparency and efficiency. In addition, the city has strengthened its creative financing strategy through Public Service Agency (BLUD) optimization and the use of the Government Credit Card (KKPD).

"The most important aspect is not the award itself, but the tangible benefits delivered to the public," Waas noted.

Ministerial Message on Strengthening Regional Autonomy

During the ceremony, Waas also conveyed a message from Minister Tito Karnavian, who underscored the theme "Through Regional Autonomy, We Realize Asta Cita." The minister highlighted the importance of stronger coordination between central and regional governments.
