Medan Mayor Rico Waas personally received the award on Friday, April 24, 2026, in Jakarta. The recognition further cements Medan's position as one of Indonesia's leading cities in advancing smart city initiatives.

Rico Waas emphasized that the achievement was the result of collective efforts across all levels of the city administration. According to him, digitalization is not merely about adopting technology, but about simplifying access to services for the public.
"This award reflects the collective work of the entire city administration. Digitalization is not just about technology, but about making services more accessible to the people," said Rico Waas, accompanied by Head of Medan's Communication and Information Office, Arrahmaan Pane.
