SUSPECTED COMPANY FUNDS EMBEZZLEMENT UNCOVERED: The Criminal Investigation Unit of Jambi City Police has uncovered an alleged embezzlement case involving a sales representative. The company reportedly suffered losses of approximately Rp255.7 million.

JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - The Criminal Investigation Unit of Jambi City Police (Satreskrim Polresta Jambi) has uncovered a suspected case of embezzlement involving the misuse of a position of trust. The investigation centres on a 25-year-old sales representative identified by the initials AW, from Paal Lima, Kota Baru District, Jambi. He is suspected of misappropriating funds belonging to his employer, the distribution company CV Serasan Sekundang Mandiri.

AW allegedly abused his role as a sales representative, which involved marketing products and collecting payments from customer transactions. Rather than transferring the money he collected to the company, the suspect allegedly instructed several customers to make payments into private bank accounts, as well as an account held in another person's name.

The alleged actions are believed to have caused the company losses amounting to Rp255,715,000, or approximately Rp255.7 million. The Criminal Investigation Unit of Jambi City Police is currently handling the case and working to complete the investigation.

Jambi Police Chief Kombes Pol Ananto Herlambang, speaking through the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, said the investigation was being conducted based on Police Report Number LP/B/49/I/2023/SPKT/Polresta Jambi, dated 12 January 2023. Anggie Setia Budy is recorded as the complainant in the report.

Customer Payments Allegedly Diverted to Private Accounts

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Jambi City Police explained that AW was responsible for marketing the company's products and collecting payments from customer transactions. However, the suspect allegedly used these responsibilities to divert payments that should have been deposited into the company's accounts.

"The suspect was responsible for marketing the company's products and collecting payments from business transactions as a sales representative. However, he did not remit the money he collected to the company. Instead, he instructed business owners to transfer the payments to a private account in the name of Tias Aspara or to his own account," the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit explained.

The alleged fraud was linked to sales transactions and customer payments. As part of the scheme, AW allegedly instructed business owners to settle their invoices through bank accounts that were not among the company's official accounts.

As a result, the company did not receive the payments, even though the customers had already settled their invoices. Discrepancies between sales receipts and the amounts actually received by the company raised suspicions of irregularities in the management of incoming payments.

Investigators secured bank transfer receipts and several sales invoices as evidence. These documents are being used in the investigation to trace the flow of payments and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged embezzlement.

Company Audit Uncovers Discrepancies in Incoming Payments

The case came to light after a business contacted the company on Thursday, 15 December 2022, at approximately 4 pm local time. The customer reported that the invoice had already been paid in full by bank transfer.

The customer's notification prompted the company to review its sales and payment records. A subsequent examination revealed discrepancies in several sales receipts between the amounts recorded and the payments actually entered into the company's accounts.

The company also discovered that funds from several transactions had not been deposited as required. These findings led to suspicions that the suspect had diverted customer payments into private bank accounts.

The difference between invoices that customers reported as fully paid and the amounts actually received by the company became a key lead in uncovering the case. The company subsequently filed a police report with Jambi City Police over the suspected criminal offence.

AW's alleged actions caused CV Serasan Sekundang Mandiri total losses of Rp255,715,000. The amount is one of the key aspects being examined by investigators as part of the proceedings.

Suspect Faces Potential Prison Sentence

Jambi City Police are investigating AW under Article 374 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), concerning embezzlement involving the abuse of a position of trust, or Article 488 of Law Number 1 of 2023. These provisions serve as the legal basis for investigating the alleged offence.

Police have detained AW at Jambi City Police headquarters so that he can undergo further questioning. Criminal investigators will also complete the investigation files and coordinate with the competent public prosecutor's office.

Coordination with prosecutors forms part of the legal process before investigators take the next steps in accordance with applicable regulations. In addition, they are examining bank transfer receipts and sales invoices in greater detail to strengthen the evidence in the suspected embezzlement case.

Jambi Police Chief Kombes Pol Ananto Herlambang stressed that Jambi City Police remained committed to taking firm action against all forms of crime that harm the public or the business community in Jambi.

The case serves as a reminder for businesses to maintain proper systems for recording sales and incoming payments. They should also ensure that customers use only official payment channels so that transactions can be accurately recorded and reliably monitored.

Jambi City Police are continuing their investigation into the suspected embezzlement. Investigators are gathering and completing the evidence while coordinating with the public prosecutor's office. (IDNC)
