LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM- The Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) program is not merely about providing food to the public. Every meal served also represents a responsibility to ensure that the food is halal, clean, safe, and nutritious. This commitment was demonstrated by Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR, who personally inspected the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi/SPPG) on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Accompanied by the Chairwoman of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Bhayangkari Branch, Ny. Heni Rosef Efendi, the police chief inspected the SPPG operated by Yayasan Kemala Bhayangkari 5 on Jalan Baru, Kampung Banjar II, Kotapinang Urban Village, Kotapinang District. The delegation then continued the inspection at the SPPG operated by Yayasan Kemala Bhayangkari 3 on Jalan Lintas Sumatera in Aek Batu, Torgamba District.The visit aimed to ensure that the MBG program was being implemented in accordance with applicable standards. The police chief paid particular attention to cleanliness, food safety, the quality of ingredients used, adequate nutritional content, and the readiness of the meals before they were distributed by personnel to beneficiaries.
AKBP Rosef Efendi did not limit his inspection to the meals that had already been prepared. Instead, he examined the entire food-processing chain, from the receipt and storage of ingredients to their processing and preparation, as well as kitchen cleanliness and hygiene, the condition of cooking utensils, packaging, and preparations for meal distribution.
He said that monitoring every stage was essential to maintaining food quality for the public. The success of the MBG program, he explained, should not be measured solely by the number of meals distributed. Equally important is the quality of the food actually consumed by the beneficiaries."The most important thing is to ensure that the meals provided to beneficiaries are safe, clean, and nutritious. Therefore, every step must be carefully monitored, starting with the quality of the ingredients, processing, kitchen cleanliness, and packaging, through to distribution," the police chief said.
Attention to food quality also includes halal status, cleanliness, and health benefits. From an Islamic perspective, food consumed by the public is not merely intended to satisfy hunger. It must also comply with halal requirements and provide health benefits.Therefore, SPPG operators bear significant responsibility for ensuring that every meal they prepare meets the established standards. This is particularly important because the MBG program serves the public as its beneficiaries, and food quality is directly linked to their health.
The police chief reminded SPPG operators not to neglect food safety and cleanliness at any stage of program implementation. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of timely distribution so that beneficiaries receive their meals in good condition."We want this program to provide a concrete benefit. There must be no situation where unsuitable food is distributed or the processing fails to meet the required standards. Timely distribution is also important so that the meals arrive at the recipients in good condition," he stressed.
The inspection also demonstrates that the implementation of a nutrition-support program does not end with administrative procedures and food distribution. Every individual meal affects the health of its beneficiaries and is also connected to the quality of human resources in the future.
From a public-service perspective, monitoring food quality is an important part of maintaining public trust. The MBG program can deliver maximum benefits when all parties consistently carry out their respective responsibilities, from food procurement and processing to packaging and distribution.Through direct inspections, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police also supports the smooth implementation of the MBG program. The police chief expressed hope that all SPPG operators would continue to consistently comply with cleanliness, health, and food-safety standards. He also called on everyone involved to carry out their responsibilities conscientiously so that the MBG program delivers tangible benefits to the public.
"Ultimately, we want to ensure that the food reaching the public is fit for consumption, safe, and nutritious. We must work together to ensure that this program is properly implemented and provides the greatest possible benefit to the beneficiaries," AKBP Rosef Efendi said in closing.Through direct monitoring, the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police demonstrates that the success of the MBG program is not measured solely by whether meals reach beneficiaries.
