MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Medan branch of the Indonesian General Insurance Association (Asosiasi Asuransi Umum Indonesia/AAUI) has intensified communication and coordination with the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan/OJK) of North Sumatra. During an official visit, the association introduced its new board and discussed work plans as well as opportunities for cooperation aimed at strengthening the insurance industry in North Sumatra.

The meeting was held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The new AAUI Medan board and association representatives met with OJK North Sumatra Head Triyoga Laksito, Director Nuzul, and Paramita Yulia Nasution. On the occasion, AAUI Medan introduced its new board and association members while outlining several planned work programs.

The meeting was not merely an opportunity for introductions. AAUI Medan and OJK North Sumatra discussed various forms of cooperation that could deliver direct benefits to the public. Key areas included strengthening insurance literacy, providing knowledge on risk management, and improving coordination between industry players and the regulatory authority.

AAUI Medan Prepares Insurance Day

One of the main topics discussed was the planned Insurance Day series of activities. AAUI Medan is preparing the event as an opportunity to improve public understanding of the benefits and importance of insurance.

Through Insurance Day, AAUI Medan aims to expand public education on insurance products while increasing awareness of the importance of appropriate risk management in everyday life. The association also plans to align the event with OJK programs so that the educational content can reach a wider segment of the public.

During the meeting, AAUI Medan requested OJK support and guidance in implementing various work programs, including the Insurance Day activities. OJK North Sumatra welcomed the plan and expressed its readiness to support and participate in the event organized by AAUI Medan.

OJK North Sumatra Head Triyoga Laksito also urged AAUI Medan to make optimal use of SiMolek. He said the educational platform could be utilized during Insurance Day as well as in various other financial literacy activities.

"The use of this educational platform is expected to help expand the reach of financial literacy and improve public understanding of insurance products and their benefits," said OJK North Sumatra Head Triyoga Laksito.

OJK considers AAUI an important institution in promoting public understanding of the benefits of insurance. Therefore, the regulator has encouraged AAUI Medan to actively expand its educational activities to further strengthen financial literacy and inclusion.

Expanding Education for Students and MSMEs

In addition to Insurance Day, OJK encouraged AAUI Medan to broaden its cooperation across various social and economic sectors. Banks, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and other relevant institutions could become strategic partners in expanding the reach of insurance education.

OJK also highlighted opportunities for AAUI Medan to collaborate through the BIK program. Through the program, AAUI Medan can reach communities in various regions and deploy speakers to provide information on the benefits of insurance and the importance of appropriate risk management.

Furthermore, OJK encouraged AAUI Medan to expand its insurance education target groups to include university students and schoolchildren. Early education is considered important to ensure that young people have adequate knowledge about managing risks and financial planning.

With this knowledge, young people are expected to make more informed financial decisions in the future while taking into account protection against various risks that may arise.

At the same time, AAUI Medan is expected to serve as a platform for exchanging information, coordinating, and facilitating cooperation among its members. Strong communication among members will help the association develop programs that address public needs while contributing to the strengthening of the insurance industry in North Sumatra.

OJK urged AAUI Medan to further strengthen its relationship with the regulator and expand communication with other institutions connected to the insurance industry. According to OJK, cross-sector cooperation could create additional opportunities to deliver broader and more effective educational programs.

AAUI Medan was also encouraged to actively participate in the Financial Services Industry Communication Forum (Forum Komunikasi Industri Jasa Keuangan/FKIJK). Such participation could strengthen coordination and synergy between the insurance industry and other segments of the financial services sector.

Strengthening Coordination and Industry Response

During the meeting, OJK also urged insurance companies affiliated with AAUI Medan to pay close attention to the quality of their cooperation with insurance partners and other supporting parties. OJK emphasized the importance of selecting partners with strong reputations who operate professionally and credibly.

This step is considered essential to maintaining the quality of services provided to the public while minimizing potential problems in the delivery of insurance services.

Beyond its educational role, AAUI Medan can also serve as a coordination platform for various developments and issues emerging in the insurance industry in North Sumatra. The association can collect concerns and recommendations from its members and subsequently present them to OJK, supporting communication between industry players and the regulator.

During the meeting, AAUI Medan also conveyed several recommendations to OJK regarding the need to update existing regulations. These included provisions and adjustments concerning tariffs or rates in the property and motor vehicle sectors. OJK North Sumatra received the recommendations and will forward them to the central OJK in accordance with the applicable coordination mechanisms.

AAUI Medan and OJK also emphasized the importance of cooperation in combating insurance-related crimes. OJK appreciated the association's active role and called for stronger coordination with relevant institutions, including the police, prosecutors' offices, and other law enforcement agencies, in tackling insurance-related offenses.

To support the association's activities, OJK said its new building could in the future be utilized by AAUI Medan for various work programs. The building's multipurpose room could serve as one of the facilities for events that meet the needs of the association and the broader financial services industry.

AAUI Medan Chairwoman Dina Alfanita Sianipar said the meeting was an important moment for AAUI Medan to strengthen its relationship with OJK North Sumatra while building broader cooperation with various stakeholders.

"Closer synergy is expected to help improve financial literacy and inclusion in the insurance sector, expand public education, and strengthen cooperation between industry players and relevant institutions," said Dina Alfanita Sianipar, Chairwoman of AAUI Medan.

The meeting then continued with an informal discussion and a group photo session. The event also underscored the commitment of AAUI Medan and OJK North Sumatra to maintaining communication, improving coordination, and expanding cooperation with various stakeholders.

The cooperation is expected not only to strengthen relations between the association and the regulator, but also to produce programs that provide tangible benefits to the public. Through stronger financial literacy, people are expected to gain a better understanding of the role insurance plays in risk management and financial planning. (IDNC)
