ARREST OF ROBBER SUSPECT: Officers from the Medan Area Police detain a robbery suspect involved in a viral street crime case targeting a housewife on Jalan Menjangan, Medan Area.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM The Medan Area Police (Polsek Medan Area) have successfully solved a robbery case that previously went viral on social media and sparked public concern. A 46-year-old housewife (IRT), identified as Njo Siaw Ping, a resident of Jalan Menjangan, Kelurahan Pandau Hulu II, Medan Area District, became the victim of a street robbery while passing through the area.

The incident took place on Jalan Menjangan, an area known for its high level of daily community activity. After footage of the crime circulated widely on social media, it triggered public outrage and heightened concerns over security in the neighborhood.

Following the report, the Medan Area Police responded swiftly by launching an immediate investigation. Officers collected information from the surrounding environment, interviewed multiple witnesses, and examined CCTV footage located near the crime scene.

Police Move Quickly to Identify Suspect

Medan Area Police Chief AKP Muhammad Ainul Yaqin, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., through the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit (Kanit Reskrim) Iptu Khairul Fazri Lubis, S.H., led the investigation directly. Through intensive analysis, investigators eventually succeeded in identifying the suspect.

Once the suspect's whereabouts were confirmed, officers carried out a targeted operation. The suspect was later arrested in the Jalan Besar Tembung area, Percut Seituan District.

The suspect, identified as Muhammad Ridho Siregar, 21, a resident of Jalan Sampali, Kelurahan Pandau Hulu II, Medan Area District, was subsequently taken to the Medan Area Police Station for further interrogation to uncover his role and possible criminal network involvement.

Second Suspect Still at Large

According to police, the perpetrator did not act alone. He was assisted by an accomplice who remains at large and has yet to be apprehended. The individual has now been placed on the wanted list (DPO).

During the incident, the suspect allegedly threatened the victim with a sharp metal object before stealing her motorcycle. The stolen vehicle was a Yamaha Jupiter with license plate BK 2348 GV.

The incident left the victim traumatized and deprived of her daily transportation.

Authorities emphasized that they will not tolerate street crime and will pursue all legal measures firmly. The suspect is being charged under Article 479 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) and faces a prison sentence of up to seven years.

Police also urge the public to remain vigilant, especially during peak activity hours, and to promptly report any suspicious behavior to authorities. (IDNC)
