MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - The Medan Area Police Station has arrested a 41-year-old man identified by the initials Pantas Simanjuntak in connection with the theft of a truck tire in Medan Kota. The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, near his family home at Jalan Turi Ujung Lorong A.
The arrest followed a report filed by the victim, Antony Lumban Raja, who discovered that one of the tires of his parked truck had been stolen while it was left in the Jalan Turi area. Acting on the complaint, police immediately launched an investigation at the scene.
Intensive Investigation Leads to Suspect
Medan Area Police Chief AKP Muhammad Ainul Yaqin SH SIK MH, through investigation head Iptu Khairul Fazri Lubis SH MH, stated that officers moved quickly after receiving the report. The team secured evidence at the crime scene and interviewed several witnesses in the surrounding area.
Collected information eventually led investigators to a suspect believed to be staying near his residence. Police then conducted surveillance in the area until sufficient evidence confirmed his involvement.
Suspect Attempts to Escape During Arrest
When officers moved in to make the arrest, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee. However, police quickly managed to restrain him without further incident. He was then taken to the
Medan Area Police Station for intensive questioning.
Investigators also secured several pieces of evidence, including a black T-shirt and dark blue shorts allegedly worn by the suspect during the crime.
The theft occurred after the victim parked his truck in Jalan Turi. Shortly afterward, he realized one of the tires was missing and immediately reported the incident to the police.
Ongoing Investigation Into Stolen Goods
Following the arrest, police continue to interrogate the suspect to determine the motive behind the theft and to identify any possible accomplices. Authorities are also tracing the whereabouts of the stolen tire and investigating whether it has been sold or moved elsewhere.
"Facing his actions, the suspect could be charged under Article 477 of the Indonesian Criminal Code and may face up to five years in prison. Investigations are still ongoing, particularly regarding the stolen tire's trail," AKP Muhammad Ainul Yaqin said.
