DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government has launched the "Pelayanan Akses Kesehatan Kita Peduli" (PAS KALI) initiative. The program is designed to support families from low-income communities who must accompany their relatives during inpatient treatment at hospitals.
Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan officially launched the program on the sidelines of the Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW commemoration at Mangga Field in Marindal I Village, Patumbak Subdistrict, on Thursday, September 10, 2026.PAS KALI was established through a collaboration between the Deli Serdang Regency Government and Baznas Deli Serdang, the local branch of the National Zakat Agency. The program is specifically aimed at low-income residents classified within Desil 1 and Desil 2 groups.
The program is not limited to helping patients access healthcare services, but also addresses the needs of family members who accompany them during treatment. The Deli Serdang Government recognizes that patients' families often face economic and logistical difficulties when they have to leave their jobs, homes, or other family members behind to care for a relative in hospital.The Deli Serdang Government will also provide free meals for family members caring for patients in hospital. In addition, accommodation assistance will be provided in accordance with applicable regulations and eligibility requirements.
The program also takes into account families who must leave their homes to accompany a patient. Therefore, the regency government is preparing care services for children or elderly family members who require additional assistance and may have to remain temporarily at home while their relatives focus on caring for the patient in hospital.Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan said BPJS Kesehatan has so far covered medical treatment costs for patients from low-income families. However, he noted that families continue to face additional burdens during the treatment period.
"Medical treatment costs for patients from low-income families have indeed been covered by BPJS Kesehatan. However, the logistical and economic burdens faced by relatives accompanying patients during treatment have often been overlooked. This is precisely where PAS KALI comes in - to support families who accompany their loved ones," he said.According to Asri Ludin, PAS KALI reflects the government's concern for the needs of patients' families. The program is intended to help reduce the financial burden on people who must accompany their relatives during medical treatment.
As a result, low-income communities will not only receive coverage for medical treatment costs, but also assistance in meeting basic needs during their stay at the hospital.
In its initial phase, PAS KALI will be implemented at three regional public hospitals (RSUD) managed by the Deli Serdang Regency Government. They are RSUD Haji Amri Tambunan, RSUD Pancur Batu, and RSUD Bangun Purba.
The Deli Serdang Government selected these three healthcare facilities as the initial locations to ensure targeted implementation while providing immediate assistance to residents who need it.Baznas Deli Serdang is also involved in implementing the program as a partner of the regency government. The collaboration is part of efforts to strengthen social and healthcare services while utilizing zakat resources to assist people who meet the established eligibility criteria.
The Deli Serdang Government does not rule out expanding the PAS KALI program in the future. It hopes to reach more people and involve additional healthcare facilities in the program."We hope the scope of services can be expanded in the future so that more people and healthcare facilities can receive support through PAS KALI," he said.
The development of the program is expected to become increasingly important amid growing demand for healthcare services. The initiative is intended to focus not only on patients, but also on the circumstances of the families who accompany them throughout the treatment process.
In addition to launching PAS KALI, the Deli Serdang Government and Baznas have also strengthened their cooperation in meeting residents' basic needs through a program to renovate uninhabitable houses.
In the spirit of mutual assistance, Baznas Deli Serdang plans to renovate seven houses belonging to families in need this year, with the properties spread across several subdistricts.The housing renovation program is part of efforts by the government and Baznas to provide residents with better and more adequate housing. Improving living conditions is also expected to enhance quality of life while providing greater safety and comfort for beneficiary families.
The cooperation between the Deli Serdang Government and Baznas in the healthcare and housing sectors demonstrates efforts to expand social services for the community. PAS KALI focuses on the needs of patients' families, while the housing program assists people who continue to live in inadequate housing conditions.Both programs also strengthen the role of the regency government and zakat administration in supporting vulnerable communities. The government hopes similar collaborations can continue to be expanded so that an increasing number of social and economic challenges faced by residents can be addressed.
Among those attending the PAS KALI launch were Chairwoman of the Deli Serdang TP PKK Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, PKK Chief Advisor I Asniar Lom Lom Suwondo, representatives of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), heads of various government agencies, subdistrict heads, community leaders, and numerous residents.The presence of various community and institutional representatives underscored cross-sectoral support for the Deli Serdang Government's efforts to improve the quality of public services, particularly in the healthcare and social sectors.
With the launch of PAS KALI, the Deli Serdang Government aims not only to ensure access to medical treatment for low-income communities, but also to support families who remain at the side of their loved ones throughout the treatment process.
