MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ To commemorate its 20th anniversary, the Yayasan Onkologi Anak Medan (YOAM), in collaboration with Prodia, organized a blood donation drive aimed at supporting children battling cancer.

The event took place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Grha Prodia multipurpose hall in Medan, focusing on addressing the urgent need for blood transfusions among pediatric cancer patients.

The initiative was carried out in partnership with the Ikatan Keluarga Citra Garden and the blood bank unit of RSUP H. Adam Malik.

Supporting Children in Critical Need

The blood donation campaign represents a tangible form of support for children undergoing cancer treatment, many of whom depend on regular blood transfusions during long and intensive therapy periods.

Prodia emphasized that the initiative goes beyond medical assistance, serving as a platform to strengthen social solidarity and community engagement.

Prodia's Regional Head for Sumatra, Marissa Arifin, stated that blood donation is part of the company's ongoing commitment to sustainable social responsibility.

"We hope to further expand our collaboration with YOAM to continuously support the children's needs," she said.

Rising Demand for Blood Supplies

According to Dr. Anitawati, head of the blood bank unit at RSUP H. Adam Malik, the demand for blood supplies continues to increase each month.

Currently, approximately 5,500 blood bags are required monthly, while only around 4,500 can be fulfilled—leaving a significant shortfall.

Through this recent initiative, a total of 46 blood bags were successfully collected, helping to partially meet the demand, particularly for children with cancer.

Celebrating Two Decades of Dedication

The event also marked two decades of YOAM's dedication to supporting children with cancer. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the organization's long-standing commitment to patient care and advocacy.

YOAM Chairperson Atika Rahmi highlighted the importance of sustained partnerships to ensure a stable blood supply.

"We aim to strengthen cooperation with Prodia and the Ikatan Keluarga Citra Garden to organize regular blood donation drives," she said.

The event was also attended by YOAM founder and advisor Halimah Hutagalung, medical expert Prof. Dr. Bidasari Lubis, advisor Lila Ywalita, along with healthcare professionals and numerous volunteers. (IDNC)
