JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM – The Jambi Provincial Government has stepped up preparations to mitigate the risk of forest and land fires (Karhutla) during the 2026 dry season. During the Forest and Land Fire Disaster Emergency Preparedness Roll Call held at the Makorem 042/Garuda Putih headquarters on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Governor Al Haris reaffirmed the administration's commitment to strengthening preventive measures and emergency response readiness.
The event marked the official launch of an integrated wildfire prevention campaign as authorities anticipate increased fire risks across several regions of Jambi during the upcoming dry season. The preparedness ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Krisno H. Siregar, Commander of Korem 042/Garuda Putih Brigadier General TNI Nyamin, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Jambi Dr. Bima Suprayoga, representatives of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Manggala Agni wildfire units, fire departments, and other related agencies.
Joint personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), disaster management agencies, and emergency response units also participated in the event.
"Preventive measures must remain our top priority. Early coordination and vigilance are far more effective than dealing with large-scale fires after they have spread," Al Haris stated.
The governor also highlighted concerns regarding climate conditions this year. Forecasts from BMKG indicate that Jambi could experience an unusually hot and dry season in 2026, partly influenced by the global El Niño phenomenon, which may lead to reduced rainfall and prolonged drought conditions.Several areas across the province have already entered the dry season since June, while the peak period is expected between August and September 2026.
The forecast has prompted authorities to strengthen operational planning, allocate additional resources, and enhance preventive strategies to reduce the likelihood of widespread fires.
As task force commander, Brigadier General Nyamin will oversee coordination among participating institutions and ensure rapid deployment capabilities in the event of wildfire outbreaks.
The provincial government expects stronger inter-agency collaboration to improve both wildfire prevention and suppression efforts throughout the dry season.Following the preparedness roll call, regional leaders and participating agencies conducted inspections of vehicles, firefighting equipment, and operational resources to ensure full readiness.
He stressed that effective wildfire management can only be achieved through close cooperation among all stakeholders.
"The Jambi Regional Police will continue to work closely with the military, local government, BPBD, Manggala Agni, and all relevant agencies to prevent and combat forest and land fires. Preventive actions must come first through joint patrols, public awareness campaigns, and strict law enforcement against perpetrators," Erlan Munaji said.He added that integrated patrols in fire-prone areas and public education campaigns discouraging land clearing by burning remain among the primary strategies during the dry season.
At the same time, the police pledged to take firm legal action against individuals or groups found deliberately causing forest and land fires.Through the 2026 emergency preparedness initiative, the Jambi Provincial Government, military, police, and related institutions have demonstrated a united commitment to addressing the challenges of the upcoming dry season. Authorities hope that coordinated preventive measures, operational readiness, and strong inter-agency cooperation will significantly reduce the risk of large-scale forest and land fires across the province.
