MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Medan Mayor Rico Waas has expressed strong support for the 2026 Economic Census (Sensus Ekonomi 2026) conducted by Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS), while calling on residents to provide accurate and honest information. The first local data collection was carried out on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the mayor's official residence on Jalan Sudirman, Medan.
The initial enumeration marked the beginning of a nationwide data-gathering exercise aimed at mapping Indonesia's economic landscape comprehensively. The census period runs until August 31, 2026.
Head of BPS Medan, Hafsyah Aprillia, explained that the Economic Census 2026 is a national program conducted once every ten years. Since June 15, 2026, data collection has covered all economic actors, including government institutions and regional leaders as part of the first sampling phase.
Mayor Rico Waas emphasized the importance of reliable statistics in supporting effective development planning. He noted that government programs can only be properly targeted when supported by valid data.
"The Economic Census includes everyone, myself included. I therefore urge the public to provide complete and truthful information to BPS officers," Rico Waas said.
He added that the Sensus Ekonomi 2026 represents a crucial moment to reassess Indonesia's current economic conditions, noting that the last census was conducted in 2016.
"Data submitted to BPS is legally protected and will only be used for statistical analysis," he stated.
Following the completion of the interview, the BPS team placed an official 2026 Economic Census sticker at the mayor's residence, marking the successful completion of the initial data collection phase.
This step symbolizes the official launch of the Sensus Ekonomi 2026 in Medan, with the full data collection process expected to be completed by August 31, 2026. (IDNC)
