JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM- Jambi Provincial Police Chief Inspector General of Police Krisno H. Siregar led a solemn midnight vigil at exactly 12:00 a.m. WIB on Monday, August 17, 2026, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The ceremony was held at Satria Bakti Heroes Cemetery in Jambi.

The ceremony was conducted in a solemn and dignified atmosphere, serving as a tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives and strength in the struggle for Indonesia's independence. At the same time, the occasion reminded the younger generation to honor the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and carry forward their spirit of struggle through service to the people, nation, and state.

Jambi Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General of Police K. Yani Sudarto attended the ceremony alongside senior Jambi Provincial Police officers and senior Jambi City Police officers. The presence of the police leadership at the midnight vigil underscored their commitment to preserving the values of the nation's historic struggle while strengthening the spirit of nationalism in carrying out their duties.

Remembering the Sacrifices of the Heroes

The midnight vigil was part of a series of events marking the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In the quiet atmosphere of Satria Bakti Heroes Cemetery, Jambi Police paid tribute to the heroes who fell while fighting to defend and achieve Indonesia's independence.

The event was not merely an annual ceremonial tradition. The vigil also provided an opportunity for all participants to reflect on the magnitude of the sacrifices made by the nation's heroes. Their struggle forms an important part of the nation's history while also placing a responsibility on the present generation to give meaning to independence through achievement and dedicated service.

Jambi Police Chief Inspector General of Police Krisno H. Siregar, through Jambi Police Public Relations Chief Police Commissioner Erlan Munaji, said the midnight vigil carried important significance in reaffirming patriotic and national awareness.

"This midnight vigil is an expression of our respect and appreciation for the heroes who made great sacrifices for the independence of the nation and state. We must continue to draw inspiration from their fighting spirit and put it into practice in carrying out our duties and serving the people, nation, and state," said the Jambi Police Public Relations Chief.

A Moment to Strengthen National Awareness

According to him, the spirit passed down by the heroes must be reflected through concrete actions in everyday life. For the Indonesian National Police, this can be demonstrated by carrying out duties professionally, serving the public, and taking measures to maintain security and public order.

The 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence is also a moment to strengthen solidarity within society. The values of togetherness and mutual assistance must continue to be preserved so that the independence won through the sacrifices of the heroes can benefit the entire population.

It was further emphasized that the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence should not be viewed merely as a ceremonial occasion. Instead, it should serve as an opportunity to strengthen national unity, maintain security and public order, and provide the best possible service to the community.

This message highlights the broader meaning of independence. Every element of the nation bears responsibility for preserving unity and creating a safe and stable environment. Within the scope of police duties, this responsibility is demonstrated through the presence of officers among the community and the optimal delivery of public services.

Jambi Police Strengthens Public Service Commitment

Jambi Police considers maintaining security and public order an important contribution to upholding and preserving independence. The police not only carry out their duties in enforcing the law but also seek to provide a sense of security to the public through various forms of community service and measures aimed at maintaining public safety.

"The Indonesian National Police, particularly Jambi Police, remains committed to keeping public security and order safe and stable while providing the best possible service to the community. This is part of our efforts to give meaning to independence," he added.

This commitment reflects the spirit with which the 81st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia is commemorated. By carrying out their responsibilities conscientiously, the Indonesian National Police seek to continue the values of struggle left behind by the nation's heroes.

The midnight vigil at Satria Bakti Heroes Cemetery also served as a reminder that Indonesia's independence was achieved through a long struggle and tremendous sacrifice. Therefore, it is not enough for the younger generation merely to remember history. The values of that struggle must instead be translated into concrete service and social commitment.

For Jambi Police personnel, honoring the heroes serves as an inspiration to continuously improve the quality of services provided to the community.

Patriotism, national awareness, unity, and concern for the interests of the nation are values that must be consistently upheld in the performance of police duties.

Thus, the midnight vigil was not only an expression of respect for the heroes but also a reminder of the responsibility shared by all participants to safeguard national unity. It is hoped that commemorating independence will strengthen the determination of all elements of society to work together to preserve security, unity, and public order, thereby supporting Indonesia's sustainable development.
