DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - Deli Serdang Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan has called on all school principals across Deli Serdang Regency to continue implementing concrete changes within their respective school environments. He emphasized that improving education quality does not solely depend on budget allocation, but also requires strong leadership, continuous innovation, and commitment from school management.
Asri Ludin made the statement while chairing the Coordination Meeting on Improving School Principals' Performance, held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Grha Bhinneka Perkasa Jaya. The event was attended by 784 participants, including kindergarten, elementary school, and secondary school principals, as well as school supervisors throughout Deli Serdang Regency.
During the coordination meeting, Asri Ludin highlighted the crucial role of school principals as key figures in transforming educational institutions. According to him, the responsibility of a school principal is not limited to administration and management, but also includes creating innovations that directly improve teaching quality and strengthen students' character development.
Based on performance evaluations up to June 2026, the average performance level of school principals in Deli Serdang remains in the "adequate" category. The regional government considers this condition an opportunity to encourage school leaders to further improve their competencies, carry out continuous improvements, and develop new strategies for effective school management.
"More than 50 percent of our school principals' performance is still in the adequate category. I hope that in the coming months, those who are still in this category can move forward into the good category," he said.

Asri Ludin explained that improving education quality must begin with the ability of school principals to create meaningful changes that can be felt by the school community and society. According to him, a school's success is not determined solely by large financial support, but by how effectively leaders utilize existing potential.
During the event, four school principals with the highest performance achievements presented various innovations implemented at their respective schools. These programs included increasing student enrollment, establishing plastic-free schools, strengthening literacy and numeracy skills, introducing interactive learning methods, and promoting healthy lifestyles among students.
Asri Ludin hopes these successful examples can inspire other school principals throughout Deli Serdang. He encouraged all schools to continue improving educational services through creative programs that meet the needs of students.
Furthermore, Asri Ludin stated that the future evaluation system for school principals must be designed more comprehensively. Assessments should not only consider school infrastructure and physical conditions but also measure success in developing students' character.
"I want the evaluation process to look beyond physical aspects and school achievements. It must also consider the character values instilled in students. The changes implemented by schools must truly be felt by the community," he said.
As part of efforts to develop students' character, Asri Ludin is also encouraging the revitalization of the SAKOLA Movement (Sampah Kita Olah – Our Waste Is Processed) in schools. The program is considered an effective educational tool to instill discipline, responsibility, and environmental awareness among students.
He believes schools have a significant role in building positive habits from an early age. Through simple efforts such as waste management and maintaining clean living environments, schools can create healthier learning spaces while strengthening students' character development.
The coordination meeting was also attended by Deli Serdang Regional Secretary Dedi Maswardy SSos MAP. The participation of regional government officials reflected efforts to strengthen collaboration in improving education quality throughout Deli Serdang.
Asri Ludin also highlighted the Deli Serdang Government's commitment to improving social protection and the welfare of education personnel. One of the planned measures is providing incentives for part-time PPPK employees through amendments to the regional budget.
In addition, the regional government is gradually preparing position quotas for converting part-time PPPK employees into full-time PPPK positions. The process will be based on available positions, workforce requirements, and performance evaluation results.

Asri Ludin Tambunan reminded school principals to support part-time PPPK employees in improving their professional performance. He stressed that the recruitment and career development of education personnel must be based on competence, performance, and professionalism.
"I remind everyone that the appointment of part-time PPPK employees is based on performance. School principals, please guide them and become high-quality educational leaders. Do not work stagnantly without innovation. Never impose any fees on students at schools," he said.
He expressed hope that all school principals would become educational leaders with a clear vision for change and provide the best possible services to the community. In his view, quality schools are built by leaders who take action, think innovatively, and create a positive culture within the educational environment.
The Deli Serdang Regency Government will continue conducting evaluations and providing guidance to ensure sustainable improvements in school principals' performance. Through collective commitment, education quality in Deli Serdang is expected to continue improving and produce a generation with strong character and competitiveness. (IDNC)
