Medan Class I Prison Holds Free Health Service Ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - In commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Medan Class I Correctional Facility (Lapas Kelas I Medan) organized a social health service program featuring free medical examinations for correctional officers, detention facility personnel, and members of the public.

The activity was held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Medan Class I Prison's assembly field and became part of a series of events to welcome Indonesia's Independence Day celebration.

The social health service, which began at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), was carried out through collaboration between Medan Class I Prison and Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI). The event was directly led by the Head of Medan Class I Prison, Fonika Affandi, together with UNPRI's leadership team and the facility's medical personnel.

The health initiative reflected Medan Class I Prison's commitment to supporting the well-being of its employees as well as residents living in the surrounding community. The program also represented a form of social responsibility and public service from the correctional institution during the national independence celebration.

Lapas and UNPRI Strengthen Health Service Collaboration

Head of Medan Class I Prison, Fonika Affandi, stated that the free health examination program was a concrete manifestation of social responsibility and the correctional institution's contribution to both the community and its employees.

"Through our collaboration with Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), we are committed to providing optimal health services that directly benefit employees and the community. This social activity is also a meaningful way to celebrate Indonesia's 81st Independence Day with the spirit of sharing and promoting collective health awareness," Fonika said.

According to him, Independence Day is not only a moment to honor the struggles of national heroes but also an opportunity to strengthen social concern through various activities that provide direct benefits to society.

The cooperation between Medan Class I Prison and UNPRI demonstrated a shared commitment to improving public health quality. Through this initiative, employees and local residents gained easier access to free medical examinations and health consultations.

Hundreds Participate in Free Medical Examinations

During the social health service, the medical team provided various examination services for participants. The process began with registration, followed by blood pressure checks and tests for blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and uric acid.

In addition to basic health screenings, participants were given opportunities to consult directly with medical professionals to better understand their health conditions. Based on the examination results, the medical team also provided necessary medications for participants.

The health services also included dental and oral health screenings as part of efforts to detect potential health problems at an early stage.

A total of 150 participants consisting of employees and members of the surrounding community enthusiastically attended the event. Participants took advantage of the available services, ranging from initial examinations to medical consultations.

The program received positive responses because it provided free and accessible health services to the public. Beyond early detection of health issues, the activity also increased awareness about the importance of conducting regular health checks.

Social Activity Concludes with Aid Package Distribution

After all medical examinations were completed, Medan Class I Prison and UNPRI distributed social assistance packages in the form of goodie bags to participants.

The distribution of these packages served as an additional expression of care within the social health service program. The event not only provided medical assistance but also strengthened social solidarity through support for employees and community members who participated.

All activities were carried out safely, orderly, and smoothly until completion. Medan Class I Prison reaffirmed its commitment to continuing programs that create positive impacts for society, particularly during the celebration of Indonesia's Independence Day.
