DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Deli Serdang Regency Government is taking concrete steps to improve the availability of clean water for the community by constructing a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Tumpatan Village, Beringin District. The water treatment facility is expected to expand the coverage of clean water services while addressing supply shortages that have affected part of the population.
Deli Serdang Regent dr H Asri Ludin Tambunan attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the WTP construction in Tumpatan Village on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The facility is part of the Deli Serdang Regency Government's efforts, through the regional water utility PDAM Tirta Deli, to increase production capacity and expand public access to clean water.
The WTP is expected to meet the water needs of around 1,000 households in Bakaran Batu, Lubuk Pakam District. In addition, the facility will support the installation of 1,000 new water connections for residents of Tumpatan Village and surrounding areas.
Deli Serdang Regent dr H Asri Ludin Tambunan said the construction of the WTP is expected to help resolve longstanding clean water supply problems. The Deli Serdang Regency Government is targeting completion of the facility by mid-December 2026.
"With this WTP, we hope the previous water shortage problem can be resolved. Our target is for the facility to be completed by mid-December," he said.
The WTP construction is part of the regional government's efforts to ensure that improvements in water services keep pace with the growing needs of the population. The additional water treatment facility is also expected to strengthen PDAM Tirta Deli's ability to meet customer demand across various service areas.
With increased production capacity, clean water services are expected to reach more households. At the same time, the Deli Serdang Regency Government is working to ensure that the development of basic infrastructure provides direct benefits to residents, particularly in meeting their daily household water needs.
PDAM Tirta Deli Director M Topan Sahroni said the WTP being constructed in Tumpatan Village will have a production capacity of up to 10 liters per second. This capacity is expected to strengthen the water supply while enabling the regional utility to further expand its services to the community.
According to Topan, the construction of the facility is not solely aimed at increasing production capacity. The WTP is also linked to the expansion of water connections, enabling people who previously had limited access to receive better clean water services.
Increasing production capacity is an important part of maintaining the continuity of water services. With adequate water treatment infrastructure, PDAM Tirta Deli can optimize distribution to existing customers while providing new connections to additional households.
Topan said the facility is expected to have a direct impact on the quality of services provided to the community, particularly residents who have experienced water supply shortages.
"We hope that complaints about limited water supply can be resolved with this facility," he said.
In addition to increasing water production capacity, the construction of the WTP in Tumpatan Village will create an opportunity to provide additional water connections for residents. The Deli Serdang Regency Government is planning around 1,000 new connections for residents of Tumpatan Village.
At the same time, the facility will help meet the water needs of around 1,000 households in Bakaran Batu, Lubuk Pakam District. Therefore, the benefits of the WTP will not be limited to the immediate location of the facility but will also support water services in other areas where additional supply is needed.
Access to clean water is one of the basic needs of the community and requires sustainable support through adequate infrastructure. For this reason, the construction of the WTP is part of the Deli Serdang Regency Government's efforts to strengthen public services, particularly by increasing water treatment capacity and expanding the distribution network.
Also attending the WTP groundbreaking ceremony were Deli Serdang Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo SS, Chairwoman of the Deli Serdang TP PKK Jelita Asri Ludin Tambunan, representatives of relevant regional agencies, the Beringin District Head, as well as the village heads of Tumpatan and surrounding areas.
The presence of regional government officials and district-level authorities highlights support for the development of water infrastructure as one of the community's basic priorities. The Deli Serdang Regency Government hopes that construction of the WTP will proceed according to schedule so that residents can benefit from the facility as soon as possible.
With completion targeted for mid-December 2026, the WTP in Tumpatan Village is expected to become important additional infrastructure for PDAM Tirta Deli in strengthening water services. The increased production capacity and installation of new water connections are also measures to further expand access to clean water for the people of Deli Serdang. (IDNC)
