MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Governor, Bobby Nasution, has called on the cadres of Gerakan Pemuda Nasional Demokrat (GP Nasdem) North Sumatra to strengthen the spirit of nationalism and play an active role in addressing various challenges threatening the younger generation. These challenges include drug abuse and the growing spread of online gambling.
The appeal was delivered during the opening ceremony of the GP Nasdem North Sumatra Regional Leadership Meeting (Rapat Pimpinan Wilayah/Rapimwil) held at the JW Marriott Hotel Medan on Sunday evening, July 12, 2026. Bobby Nasution emphasized the importance of youth organizations' involvement in safeguarding the nation's future through positive movements and close cooperation with the government.Bobby expressed his emotional connection with GP Nasdem through a lighthearted remark while greeting the cadres attending the Rapimwil event.
"If Nasdem misses me, then I miss Nasdem three times more to meet again with GP Nasdem," Governor Bobby said with a smile.As GP Nasdem reaches its 15th anniversary, Bobby believes the organization faces major challenges in shaping the character of the younger generation. He stressed that youth organizations must serve as platforms for instilling national values and strengthening social responsibility in addressing various issues within society.
Bobby stated that nationalism is an important foundation for young people to make concrete contributions to the country.According to him, young people with a strong sense of love for their nation will have greater awareness in protecting their social environment and participating in solving community problems.

He assessed that the attitude of young people who take responsibility for their country represents a significant force in overcoming various challenges.
"They (young people in Iran) do not engage in fights and do not use drugs. It is not only about themselves, but also about protecting their country. The role of young people has helped make this country strong," Bobby said.Bobby expressed his hope that GP Nasdem North Sumatra cadres would actively participate in creating positive changes in society. He warned that drug abuse and online gambling are currently serious threats that could damage the future of the younger generation.
According to him, the government cannot overcome these challenges alone. Cooperation from various elements of society, including youth organizations, is needed to create a healthy environment and support the development of young people."Our common enemy is the same. Let us work together to solve the problems of this nation. Therefore, we hope that the discussions during this Rapimwil will also address drug abuse and online gambling issues, which can endanger the younger generation," Bobby stated.

Defri emphasized that GP Nasdem North Sumatra is ready to collaborate with the provincial government and support the development programs initiated by the North Sumatra Provincial Government under Bobby Nasution's leadership.

The ceremony was witnessed by GP Nasdem leaders and invited guests.
The Rapimwil was also attended by Samosir Regent Vandiko Gultom, representatives of the central GP Nasdem leadership, as well as GP Nasdem chairpersons from various regencies and cities across North Sumatra.The event became an important moment for GP Nasdem North Sumatra to strengthen organizational consolidation and formulate strategic steps to support regional development and address social challenges.
