DELI SERDANG | INDATANEWS.COM - The Government of Deli Serdang Regency commemorated the 80th anniversary of the region through a special plenary session of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), held at the DPRD Building in Deli Serdang. The eight-decade milestone was not only observed as a ceremonial occasion, but also as a moment of reflection on development achievements and a renewed commitment to strengthening equitable, sustainable, and improved public services for the community.
The special session was presided over by the Speaker of the Deli Serdang DPRD, Zakky Shahri, and attended by Deli Serdang Regent dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo SS, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), community leaders, as well as representatives from various government institutions and organizations.In his address, Regent Asri Ludin Tambunan stated that the 80th anniversary of Deli Serdang represents a crucial turning point in reinforcing regional development efforts. Despite challenges stemming from reduced central government transfer allocations, the regional administration continues to implement a range of strategic programs consistently.
"The spirit we aim to strengthen through this 80th anniversary celebration of Deli Serdang is that regional progress must be reflected in improved services, more equitable development, and increased community welfare," he said.Asri Ludin explained that in 2026, a total of 526,486 residents are covered, an increase of 249,406 people compared to the previous year. With this achievement, Deli Serdang has reached Universal Health Coverage (UHC) status.
The government is also targeting an upgrade to "UHC Priority" status by December 2026."Our target is for Deli Serdang to achieve UHC Priority status by December 2026," the regent stated.
In addition, Deli Serdang has received the "Healthy Regency" award in the Swasti Saba Wiwerda category, marking a historic achievement as the only regency in North Sumatra to earn this distinction.
In the education sector and human resource development, the regional government continues to expand access to education. Assistance programs include school supplies for 900 elementary students and 4,109 junior high school students, as well as scholarships for 700 low-income elementary students.
Additionally, 300 junior high school students with special needs have received support. The "Guru Senyum" program provides incentives for 2,100 Quran teachers, 100 Sunday school teachers, and 110 special education instructors.The government also plans to launch a boarding-based "Sekolah Rakyat" program, set to begin in the new academic year for elementary, junior, and senior high school levels. As part of this initiative, all elementary and junior high schools have displayed banners reading "Sekolah Gratis" to emphasize the commitment to free education.
"At all elementary and junior high schools, banners reading 'Sekolah Gratis' have been installed to reaffirm our commitment to free access to education," he said.Deli Serdang was also awarded the "Child-Friendly Regency" status in the Nindya category in August 2025, making it the only region in North Sumatra to hold this recognition.
In infrastructure development, the government has increased the investment budget for roads, networks, and irrigation in 2026 to 553 billion rupiah, marking a significant rise compared to previous years.
"This figure is 20 percent higher than 2025, 23 percent higher than 2024, and 75 percent higher than the realization in 2023," he explained.The local economy also continues to grow positively. The government supports MSMEs through the issuance of 196 Business Identification Numbers (NIB), 77 halal certificates, and 62 home industry product certifications. In addition, 103 micro-entrepreneurs have received training and equipment support.
By December 2025, 3,828 micro-enterprises had been networked, 4,526 assisted, 1,796 trained, and 440 integrated into marketing programs.Regional revenue performance has also shown positive progress. By mid-2026, property tax (PBB) realization reached 76 percent, while total regional revenue reached 53 percent.
"This is the first time Deli Serdang has achieved these figures. We still have six months left and are confident the targets will be met," he said.Regent Asri Ludin also emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure continued regional development.
"With unity, hard work, and cooperation from all elements, I am confident Deli Serdang will continue to advance and improve the quality of life of its people," he stated.The hosting of the 26th APKASI Annual Conference in Deli Serdang is also seen as an important opportunity to boost investment and enhance regional visibility.
