JAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM - Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) is promoting efforts to improve the skills of mobile phone technicians so they can keep pace with technological developments and meet the needs of businesses and industry (DUDI). One of the measures is the organization of a mobile phone technician competition as part of the Indonesia Skills Competition (Inaskill) 2026.
Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor said rapid technological developments require mobile phone technicians to continuously improve their skills. In addition to technical knowledge, technicians must also possess analytical and problem-solving abilities, be able to adapt to innovation, and understand customer service and occupational safety standards."Our technicians can take part. This is the first time that a competition for mobile phone technicians has been included among the competition categories we have prepared. The final competition will later be organized by the Directorate General of Vocational Training and Productivity (Ditjen Binalavotas)," Afriansyah said on Sunday, September 27, 2026, during the closing ceremony of the World Cup Circuit Global Championship (CGC) Indonesia 2026 at the Ministry of Manpower building in Jakarta.
The Ministry of Manpower will hold the mobile phone technician competition at the Kemnaker Vocational Training Center on Jalan Gatot Subroto No. 44, South Jakarta. The new category is part of the government's efforts to provide technicians with a competitive platform while encouraging them to develop their skills in line with technological advances.Kemnaker is also calling on mobile phone technician communities in various regions to prepare for the competition. The government expects the national competition not only to identify highly skilled technicians, but also to serve as a means of assessing their abilities and strengthening competency standards for workers in the telecommunications equipment repair sector.
The increasingly dynamic development of the mobile phone industry has also driven up demand for qualified technicians. Technicians must not only be able to repair damaged devices, but also accurately analyze problems and provide solutions in accordance with applicable work standards.Afriansyah said these developments require technicians to continuously improve their competencies. Technicians must keep up with technological advances so that their skills remain aligned with industry requirements.
He said the employment and industrial landscape continues to change with the emergence of various technological innovations. Therefore, technicians must also adapt their skills so they can provide services that correspond to developments in devices and consumer needs."In this way, the quality of the national technician workforce can meet the requirements of businesses and industry (DUDI), which are becoming increasingly modern," he said.

The Ministry of Manpower also views competitions as one of the instruments for fostering a culture of continuous skills development among workers. Through such competitions, technicians have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities based on established standards and further develop their competencies through more targeted preparation.
For mobile phone technician communities, the opportunity also provides an impetus to improve their preparations for the national-level competition. Kemnaker encourages technicians from various regions to take advantage of the opportunity by developing both their technical abilities and complementary knowledge.Afriansyah emphasized that the government wants to ensure that Indonesian technicians possess competencies that meet the requirements of modern industry. Skills development should not end with national competitions, but should also create opportunities for Indonesian technicians to compete at the global level in the future.
"The Ministry of Manpower hopes that Indonesian technicians will continue to demonstrate their capabilities and become increasingly competitive internationally. We also encourage mobile phone technician communities throughout Indonesia to prepare for the national competition," he said. The statement underscores Kemnaker's view that skills development is an important part of responding to technological change. The government encourages technicians not to rely solely on professional experience, but to continuously update their knowledge and skills in line with the development of the devices and technologies used by the public.

The event will give the winners of CGC Indonesia 2026 an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in an international-level competition. Participation in international competitions is also in line with the government's efforts to equip Indonesian workers with skills that can remain competitive amid technological change and the demands of global industry.
The Ministry of Manpower hopes that professional skills competitions, both through Inaskill and international events such as the CGC World Cup, can help strengthen a culture of continuous skills development among Indonesian workers. Competitions can also serve as a platform for aligning workforce skills with the competency standards required by businesses and industry.By including mobile phone technicians as a new category in Inaskill 2026, the Ministry of Manpower is creating greater opportunities for technicians to demonstrate their abilities in a competitive environment. The government is also calling on technician communities across Indonesia to take advantage of this opportunity to further develop their competencies and prepare for the demands of an industry that continues to evolve.
