FRAMEWORK FOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: Manpower Minister Yassierli explains the importance of the National Internship Program as a platform for university graduates to develop their skills, competencies, professional experience, and portfolios.

JAKARTA | INDATANEWS.COM - Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower has launched the National Internship Program, MagangHub Batch 2, Angkatan II. A total of 40,962 participants passed the selection process and will take part in the six-month internship program. The program is designed to strengthen their skills, professional experience, and readiness to enter the workforce.

The program provides university graduates with an opportunity to learn directly in professional work environments. Participants are expected to develop their soft skills, technical competencies, and professional experience through placements at ministries, government institutions, and partner companies across various economic sectors.

Manpower Minister Yassierli said the government had designed the National Internship Program as one of its efforts to facilitate the transition of university graduates into the workforce. He said the program was a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto, who had instructed the government to provide young talents with more opportunities to gain practical professional experience.

"The National Internship Program provides young people in the country with an opportunity to learn, gain experience, expand their skills and competencies, and build a portfolio. This is one of the government's steps to prepare outstanding talent in the future," the Manpower Minister said during the kickoff of the National Internship Program for university graduates, Batch 2, Angkatan II, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Ministry of Manpower's Vocational Training Center in Jakarta.

Strengthening Graduates' Transition into the Workforce

Yassierli explained that practical experience in a professional environment was an important part of preparing university graduates to compete in the labor market. Through the internship program, participants would not only gain additional knowledge but also build professional portfolios and become familiar with the processes and requirements of a professional workplace.

According to Yassierli, workforce requirements continue to evolve. University graduates therefore need skills that extend beyond their formal education. Adaptability, teamwork, problem-solving, and the ability to make meaningful contributions are among the competencies participants are expected to develop during the program.

The Ministry of Manpower is also working with various ministries and government institutions to implement the National Internship Program. Participating institutions include the Constitutional Court, the Secretariat General of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, and the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia.

The participation of various ministries and government institutions demonstrates that the internship program is not focused solely on the industrial sector. At the same time, participants have opportunities to gain learning experiences in government institutions and other organizations.

Yassierli emphasized that competency development remains the central objective of the program. Participants undertake internships to learn and gain experience, rather than to replace regular employees.

"The internship is intended for competency development and not to replace existing workers. Supervision is strict. Interns must not be subjected to excessive working hours, they must not work night shifts, and all assigned tasks must remain within the learning process," Yassierli stressed.

Ministry Strengthens Program Oversight

The Ministry of Manpower has established rules and monitoring mechanisms for the implementation of internships to ensure that participants gain experiences consistent with the objectives of the program. The monitoring covers workload, working hours, and the alignment of assigned tasks with the designated learning framework.

Setting limits on workloads is an important component of the program because the participants are university graduates who are still in a competency-development phase. Companies and other partner institutions are therefore required to create learning environments that are consistent with the objectives of the internship.

Participants are also prohibited from working night shifts and from being subjected to excessive workloads. Their assignments must remain connected to the learning process and provide relevant experiences that contribute to their competency development.

In addition to strengthening participant protection, the Ministry of Manpower is implementing an inclusive approach through MagangHub Batch 2, Angkatan II. A total of 15 people with disabilities are also participating in the program after successfully completing the selection process.

The participation of people with disabilities expands access to competency-development opportunities and professional experience. They will be placed at government institutions or partner companies according to available learning opportunities and their respective requirements.

The initiative is part of the government's efforts to provide young talents with broader access to professional experience while strengthening their preparation for the demands of the labor market.

Total Participants Reach 87,122

With the addition of 40,962 participants from Batch 2, Angkatan II, the total number of participants in the National Internship Program has reached 87,122. Of this total, 46,160 participants came from Batch 1, while 40,962 participants are from Batch 2, Angkatan II.

The government had previously allocated a total of 150,000 places for the second Angkatan of MagangHub. The remaining available places are expected to be filled through Batch 3, which is scheduled to begin in early November 2026.

Before the launch of Batch 3, the government plans to evaluate the implementation of the program so far. The evaluation is intended to ensure that the internships are carried out in line with the program's objectives while identifying areas that require further improvement.

The large number of participants reflects the demand among university graduates for practical professional experience and competency development. Internships provide an opportunity to connect graduates with real-world work environments while allowing them to understand the specific requirements of professional careers.

Yassierli encouraged participants not to view the program merely as an obligation but as an opportunity for continuous learning and personal development. He said the experience gained during the internship could become an important part of their professional portfolios when they subsequently enter the workforce.

He urged participants to develop a mindset focused on learning, making contributions, and creating additional value. These abilities are important for university graduates seeking to demonstrate their strengths in response to the needs of companies and the broader labor market.

"The formula for success in an internship is: learn quickly, contribute, and be different. I often say: be different, because a company will hire us when we create added value, when we provide significant added value to the company," Yassierli said in closing.

The National Internship Program is intended to serve as a bridge for university graduates to narrow the gap between academic competencies and workforce requirements. During the six-month internship period, participants have opportunities to develop their skills, gain professional experience, build networks, and strengthen their portfolios as preparation for entering the labor market.
