CLARIFICATION POCONG CARRYING A MACHETE: Batu Aji Police Chief AKP Bayu Rizky Subagyo delivers an official statement clarifying the viral AI-generated pocong video.

BATAM, Indonesia | INDATANEWS.COM The Batu Aji Sector Police have officially confirmed that a viral video showing a mysterious figure dressed as a pocong carrying a machete in Kelurahan Kibing, Batu Aji District, Batam City, is entirely false. Authorities stated that the footage is a hoax created using artificial intelligence (AI) and is believed to have been produced by a minor.

The clarification was issued after the video spread rapidly across social media platforms and messaging applications, triggering anxiety and concern among residents. The footage appeared highly realistic, leading many viewers to believe that a real incident had occurred in a residential area.

Police Confirm No Evidence of 'Pocong with Machete'

Batu Aji Police Chief, AKP Bayu Rizky Subagyo, emphasized that field investigations found no evidence supporting the events depicted in the viral video. Authorities confirmed that no such incident took place in the area.

"The eerie figure in a pocong costume carrying a machete is not a real person, but the result of digital manipulation using AI technology," AKP Bayu said on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

He added that advancements in AI tools now allow the creation of highly realistic visual content, which can easily mislead the public if not properly verified.

Video Traced to Minor Using AI Application

Following an internal investigation, police identified the creator of the video as a minor. The content was generated using an AI-based application capable of producing realistic synthetic scenes.

After being created, the video was circulated through a neighborhood WhatsApp group (WA Group MKGR) before spreading more widely, causing unrest among residents in Kelurahan Kibing.

Authorities stressed that the case highlights the growing risks of irresponsible use of AI technology in digital media.

Swift Police Response Restores Public Calm

The Batu Aji Police responded quickly to public concern by conducting on-site inspections, interviewing residents, and tracing the origin of the video.

Officials confirmed that no real incident had occurred and immediately issued a public clarification to prevent further misinformation and maintain public order.

AKP Bayu also praised residents for promptly reporting the issue, which helped accelerate the clarification process.

Education Approach for Juvenile Involved

Given that the video creator is a minor, police are handling the case with a preventive and educational approach rather than a purely punitive one. The focus is on awareness and digital responsibility.

Authorities are coordinating with relevant institutions to provide psychological and legal guidance for the child involved, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The police chief also acknowledged the cooperation of local Kibing officials and support from the Batam City Women and Children Protection Unit (UPTD PPA Kota Batam) in safeguarding and assisting the juvenile.

Public Urged to Verify Online Information

AKP Bayu urged the public to be more cautious and verify information before sharing it on social media.

"Be careful and always verify information through fact-checking before sharing it," he said.

He warned that with the rapid development of AI technology, highly realistic fake content can be created easily, making public vigilance more important than ever. (IDNC)
