PEKANBARU | INDATANEWS.COM - State-owned PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety, comfort, and smooth traffic flow along the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), particularly on the Pekanbaru–Dumai (Permai) section. The initiative is carried out through continuous service quality improvements and routine maintenance of infrastructure along the 131.5-kilometre corridor, which serves as a key economic artery in Sumatra.

Since its inauguration, the Pekanbaru–Dumai route has functioned as a strategic transportation link, accelerating mobility, goods distribution, and economic growth in Riau Province and surrounding regions. Hutama Karya emphasizes that infrastructure maintenance remains a top priority to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel.

Routine Maintenance as a Key Pillar

Hutama Karya continues to conduct regular condition monitoring and targeted maintenance on flexible pavement at multiple points along the toll road. These works are carried out in both directions—lane A from Pekanbaru toward Dumai and lane B from Dumai toward Pekanbaru.

The company stated that all maintenance activities are part of a structured program aimed at maintaining service standards and road quality across the Pekanbaru–Dumai corridor.

Systematic Monitoring and Rapid Response

Hutama Karya's regional representative office for central Sumatra said maintenance activities are based on regular field inspections and evaluations. Any detected deterioration in road conditions is immediately prioritized for corrective action.

"Regarding road conditions, maintenance work on flexible pavement is currently being carried out on both lane A toward Dumai and lane B toward Pekanbaru. This is part of our routine program to improve service quality on the Pekanbaru–Dumai toll road," said Untung.

He further emphasized that any safety-critical damage is addressed without delay, particularly in high-risk areas for road users.

Positive Feedback from Road Users

The infrastructure quality of the Pekanbaru–Dumai toll road has received generally positive feedback from users. Many drivers report faster and more comfortable journeys, although some sections experience uneven surfaces due to heavy freight traffic.

Amin Hadian, a resident of Ujung Gading in West Sumatra, used the route for the first time and expressed overall satisfaction. "This is my first time on the Permai toll road. In general, the infrastructure is good, although it still needs further improvement. Perhaps it is affected by heavy truck traffic that makes some sections uneven," he said.

He also highlighted the facilities at the rest area at Kilometer 45 in Kandis, Siak Regency, which he considered highly supportive for travelers.

"The facilities here are very complete—from food services and a mosque to rest areas. It is very helpful for long-distance travel," he added.

Permai Toll Road as a Preferred Travel Route

Sardi, a resident of Medan who frequently uses the route, also gave positive remarks. According to him, the toll road has significantly reduced travel time across cities in Sumatra.

"I have used this route more than five times. It saves a lot of time when traveling between Medan and other cities. The road is generally smooth, and the rest areas are very helpful, especially for long trips and prayers," he said.

He added that the toll road has significantly improved both efficiency and travel comfort across long-distance routes.

Strengthened Safety and Service Standards

Hutama Karya ensures that comprehensive safety measures are implemented during ongoing maintenance works to minimize traffic disruption. These include warning signs, work-zone protection, and on-site personnel deployment.

The company also apologized for any inconvenience caused to road users during maintenance activities.

"We apologize for any disruptions during the work. These measures are intended to ensure safe, comfortable, and standardized road conditions," Untung stated.

Through these efforts, Hutama Karya continues to strengthen its commitment to maintaining the Pekanbaru–Dumai toll road as one of the most important corridors in the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road network—safe, comfortable, and sustainable. (IDNC)
