LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Police officers from the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Department have arrested a 28-year-old man identified by the initials MRP, alias JALI, who is suspected of carrying 194.80 grams of methamphetamine (shabu) by gross weight. The arrest was made on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the Jalan Kampung Raja area, Kotapinang District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency.
Officers found four transparent plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine inside a black Eiger sling bag carried by MRP. Police also seized a black Redmi mobile phone found in the suspect's back trouser pocket.The case came to light following information from the public submitted through Dumas Presisi. Acting on the report, officers from the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Department's Narcotics Investigation Unit conducted an investigation and eventually arrested MRP at the location mentioned in the report.
Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief AKBP Rosef Efendi, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR., through Public Relations Officer AKP Sujono, said narcotics investigators immediately followed up on the information provided by the public.
"The case began with information from the public submitted through Dumas Presisi. The information was subsequently verified by narcotics investigators until they succeeded in arresting a suspected offender along with evidence believed to be methamphetamine," AKP Sujono told journalists at the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police headquarters on Sunday, September 6, 2026.Following receipt of the information, a team led by IPDA Dapot Tua Simanjuntak, S.H., M.H., head of Investigation Unit II of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, went to the location identified in the report.
At around 5 p.m. local time, officers spotted a black Toyota Avanza public transport vehicle operated by RAPI. The officers then noticed a man whose behavior appeared suspicious.Police stopped the vehicle and conducted an inspection at the scene. During the inspection, the man was identified as MRP, alias JALI. He is from Jalan Sejarah, Bagan Batu Urban Village, Bagan Sinembah District, Rokan Hilir Regency.
Police opened the plastic bag and discovered two white envelopes. Further inspection of the envelopes revealed four transparent plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine.
The seized items were subsequently weighed by officers. The four transparent bags containing suspected methamphetamine had a gross weight of 194.80 grams.In addition, officers found a black Redmi mobile phone in MRP's back trouser pocket. The phone was also seized as evidence.
During initial questioning, MRP admitted that the suspected drugs belonged to him.Police then took MRP, along with all the seized evidence, to the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police headquarters. The suspect is undergoing further questioning as investigators seek to determine the source of the suspected drugs and whether he has any links to a drug distribution network.
According to him, information from the public is an important source for police in detecting and uncovering drug trafficking within the jurisdiction of the Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Department. Therefore, every report received will be followed up in accordance with applicable investigative procedures.
"Information from the public greatly assists the police in uncovering drug trafficking," he said.The arrest of MRP demonstrates that efforts to combat drug trafficking require the joint involvement of the public and law enforcement authorities. Police do not rely solely on patrols and their own investigations, but also depend on information from residents to identify suspicious activities that may be connected to drug trafficking.
The role of the public is becoming increasingly important because drug trafficking is often carried out covertly and in changing locations. Prompt reports from residents can help police initiate investigations and take action against suspected criminal activities involving drugs.The Labuhanbatu Selatan Police Chief urged residents not to allow drug networks to continue developing. Members of the public who witness or become aware of suspected drug transactions or drug trafficking are encouraged to immediately report the matter to police.
