Torgamba Police Step Up Night Patrols to Curb Street Crime and Illegal Racing

LABUHANBATU SELATAN | INDATANEWS.COM - Weekends are not a lawless period when it comes to street crime or illegal street racing. To prevent disturbances to public safety and order, the Torgamba Police Station (Polsek Torgamba), under the command of AKP Sunipan Gurusinga, S.H., has intensified night patrols across its jurisdiction.

The patrols were conducted on Saturday night, September 5, 2026, and continued into the early hours of Sunday, September 6, 2026. The operation began at around 11 p.m. local time (WIB) and focused on several areas considered vulnerable to criminal activity, gatherings of young people, or other activities that could disrupt public order and endanger road users.

The measure is part of the police's efforts to maintain public safety and order, particularly during weekend nights when community activity on the streets typically increases.

Patrols Focus on High-Risk Areas

For the operation, Polsek Torgamba deployed personnel from several units. Among those involved were Aipda Idris Tanjung from the Samapta Unit, Bripda Jio Pasaribu from the Investigation Unit, and Brigadir Irwan from the Traffic Unit.

The three officers patrolled several road sections and locations where young people might gather late into the night. At the same time, the officers monitored the behavior of road users that could potentially create safety concerns or pose risks to traffic.

The police presence was not intended solely to respond after disturbances occurred. Instead, officers emphasized prevention by monitoring developments on the ground and engaging directly with members of the community.

The personnel approached young people who were still out late at night in a humane and communicative manner. Officers urged them to disperse in an orderly fashion and return to their respective homes.

The approach is aimed at preventing potential problems at an early stage. Through effective communication, police sought to ensure that gatherings would not escalate into public-order disturbances, criminal activity, or behavior that could lead to traffic accidents.

Preventing Illegal Racing and Traffic Disruptions

Weekend nights remain a particular focus for police because community activity on the roads tends to increase. Gatherings of young people, reckless driving, and suspected illegal street racing can compromise the safety and comfort of other road users.

Such activities can also increase the risk of criminal incidents if they are not regularly monitored. For this reason, Polsek Torgamba has intensified night patrols as a preventive measure to contain potential security disturbances before they develop into more serious problems.

In addition to maintaining public safety, personnel from the Traffic Unit monitored traffic conditions. Police presence at several points was intended to encourage disciplined behavior among road users and help prevent risky conduct that could endanger motorists themselves or other road users.

The patrols also provided officers with an opportunity to interact directly with the community. Through this approach, police are not relying solely on law enforcement but are also encouraging public awareness and participation in maintaining safety and order in residential areas.

Police Emphasize Humane Security Measures

Polsek Torgamba emphasized that night patrols will continue as part of efforts to maintain public safety and order, commonly known as Kamtibmas. Police also urged residents to work together to maintain a safe environment and avoid activities that could disturb public order.

Under the leadership of AKP Sunipan Gurusinga, S.H., Polsek Torgamba continues to implement a security strategy centered on prevention, a visible police presence in the community, and humane communication with residents.

This approach is important because regular patrols enable police to identify potential disturbances at an early stage. At the same time, officers can provide information and guidance directly to residents before an activity develops into a criminal offense or traffic accident.

The night patrols also underscore Polsek Torgamba's commitment to providing residents with a sense of security, particularly those who remain active or travel during nighttime hours. The police presence on the streets is expected to promote greater order and provide a safer environment for all road users.
