JAMBI | INDATANEWS.COM - Police in Jambi took firm action on Monday, August 17, 2026, by stopping and sanctioning a convoy of students who were riding motorcycles recklessly through several streets in Jambi City after attending a ceremony marking the Proclamation Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
Officers from the Jambi City Police Traffic Unit stopped a group of students traveling from the Taman Makam Pahlawan Heroes Cemetery toward the Simpang Jelutung intersection. Police determined that the students' conduct posed a danger to both themselves and other road users.When the group passed through the area, traffic officers were carrying out traffic security duties at the Jelutung traffic post. After observing several students entering the intersection, the officers immediately intervened.
The Head of the Jambi City Police Public Relations Section, Iptu Edy, said officers took immediate action when the group reached the Simpang Jelutung intersection."After the moment of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, they suddenly appeared from the direction of the Heroes Cemetery and headed toward the Simpang Jelutung intersection. Coincidentally, we were assigned to provide security at the Jelutung traffic post. When they arrived there, we immediately intervened," Iptu Edy said.
Iptu Edy said police officers identified numerous traffic violations while pursuing the group. The students were riding recklessly, carrying as many as three people on a single motorcycle and displaying a flag that they claimed was a school flag.

Police operations focused on the Simpang Jelutung, Simpang Royal, Simpang Puncak and Simpang Adipura intersections.
Officers not only stopped the motorcycles passing through the area but also inspected the students and the vehicles they were using. The inspections were aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations while also preventing the convoy from continuing into other parts of the city.During the inspections, police found that the students involved came from several schools in Jambi City. They included students from SMA DB, SMA Negeri 13, Yadika School and SMK Negeri 2.
Police subsequently seized at least 33 motorcycles used by the students during the convoy. Traffic penalties were imposed on all of the vehicles after officers identified various violations.
In addition to issuing traffic penalties, police held the dozens of motorcycles for 14 days. The measure is part of the police's efforts to create a deterrent effect among the students.
"For the 33 motorcycles, we imposed traffic penalties and will hold them for the next 14 days," Iptu Edy stressed.The measures are also intended to prevent the students from organizing another dangerous convoy. Police said reckless driving, carrying more passengers than permitted and traveling in convoys on public roads increase the risk of traffic accidents.
The Jambi City Police Traffic Unit chief said the security measures and police action were part of efforts to maintain road safety and public order following events marking the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.Police urged students not to use Independence Day celebrations as an occasion for convoys that could disrupt other road users. Celebrations, officers said, should continue in an orderly manner while taking into account their own safety as well as the safety of the public.
Jambi Police Chief Kombes Ananto Herlambang also directly took part in securing the students involved in the convoy. Several senior officers from the Jambi City Police supported personnel in handling the group.

Family and school supervision, police said, is important in preventing traffic violations and risky driving behavior among students.Police hope that the measures taken against the 33 motorcycles will serve as a lesson for the students and encourage greater discipline on the road. Other members of the public were also encouraged to commemorate the anniversary of independence through positive activities without compromising the safety and comfort of the community.
Police emphasized that the safety of road users remains the highest priority in all traffic security operations.
