TRAIN TICKET DISCOUNT: Passengers board the Sribilah Utama train in North Sumatra as the Indonesian government and KAI introduce a 30 percent fare discount from March 14–29, 2026, to support Eid al-Fitr homecoming travel and strengthen purchasing power.

MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM ~ The Indonesian government is strengthening its national economic stimulus program in the first quarter of 2026 by reducing railway fares ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri.

A 30 percent discount will be applied to train journeys from March 14 to March 29, 2026, aiming to maintain public purchasing power while ensuring smooth mobility during the festive homecoming season.

According to Anwar Yuli Prastyo, Acting Head of Public Relations at PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division I North Sumatra, the company is fully prepared to support the 2026 Eid transportation surge.

"To support this economic stimulus initiative, we are providing a total of 10,176 promotional seats in North Sumatra for the Eid homecoming period," Anwar said.

Limited-Time Discount for Economy Class Travelers

The fare reduction applies to the Economy Class of the Sribilah Utama Fakultatif service operating on the Medan–Rantau Prapat route, both outbound and return trips.

Each day, 636 discounted seats will be available — 318 departing from Medan and 318 from Rantau Prapat.

With the government-backed incentive, the standard ticket price has been reduced from Rp170,000 to Rp119,000.

"This fare adjustment provides tangible relief for travelers wishing to celebrate Eid with their families without being burdened by high transportation costs," Anwar added.

Boosting Regional Economy and Tourism

The Sribilah Utama Fakultatif train consists of two Business Class coaches and three Economy Class coaches, offering a total capacity of 446 seats per trip. The train composition is designed to accommodate the traditionally high demand for land transportation during the annual mudik (homecoming) period.

Tickets can be purchased via the Access by KAI mobile application, the official website booking.kai.id, or authorized ticketing partners.

KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra reaffirmed its full commitment to the government's economic recovery agenda. The reduced fares are expected not only to enhance mobility during Eid al-Fitr 2026 but also to generate positive impacts on regional tourism and economic stability.

The 30 percent ticket discount is therefore positioned as both a transportation incentive and a strategic measure to sustain economic momentum in North Sumatra throughout the holiday season. (IDNC)
