MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya has called on the newly elected board of Karang Taruna in North Sumatra to further strengthen the organization, manage it in an orderly manner, and actively carry out its duties down to the village and neighborhood levels. Surya made the remarks during the opening of the 2026 North Sumatra Karang Taruna Temu Karya at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall at the North Sumatra Governor's Office on Jalan Diponegoro in Medan on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The forum provided Karang Taruna in North Sumatra with an opportunity to form a new board while strengthening the organization's direction in its community engagement efforts."This Temu Karya is also an opportunity to open a new chapter. The board that will later be formed must be able to build a solid, well-organized and active organization down to the village and even neighborhood levels," Surya said.
Surya said Karang Taruna holds a strategically important position because the organization has existed for a long time and maintains direct contact with the community. This proximity is an important asset that enables Karang Taruna to support the government in identifying and responding to various issues facing society.
"We no longer need to question the existence of Karang Taruna in the community, where it has been active for a long time," Surya said.He emphasized that Karang Taruna's activities are not limited to youth programs. The organization can also provide a platform for the younger generation to contribute to social development in their respective communities.
Therefore, Surya expressed hope that the board emerging from the 2026 North Sumatra Karang Taruna Temu Karya would maintain organizational consolidation from the provincial level down to villages and neighborhoods.
