GUNUNGSITOLI | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has urged all heads of regional governments across the Nias Islands to promptly submit their proposals for Provincial Financial Assistance (Bantuan Keuangan Provinsi/BKP) for the 2027 fiscal year. Bobby emphasized that submitting the proposals early is important to allow regional governments to begin implementing their development programs at the start of the new fiscal year.
Bobby made the call on Saturday, August 8, 2026, during a coordination meeting on the implementation of Provincial Financial Assistance at the temporary office of the Governor of North Sumatra in Gunungsitoli."For 2027, the proposals should be submitted as early as possible so implementation can begin at the start of 2027," Bobby said.
Bobby urged the regents and mayor across the Nias Islands to carefully prepare their program proposals based on the needs of the community. Programs that have a direct impact on people's lives, he said, should be given priority.According to Bobby, the economic sector, healthcare services, and educational facilities should receive particular attention when preparing BKP programs. By planning programs based on actual priorities, the government can ensure that available budget allocations deliver the greatest possible benefit to the community.
Bobby also reminded the district and city governments not to delay the submission of their programs for the 2027 fiscal year. Early submission will give the provincial government and regional administrations sufficient time to discuss the programs and prepare for their implementation.
The North Sumatra Provincial Government previously allocated around Rp53 billion in Provincial Financial Assistance to regional governments across the Nias Islands for the 2026 fiscal year.The funds support various development initiatives in the Nias region, including road construction and rehabilitation, irrigation development, school construction, and the provision of drilled wells.
The funds were distributed among five regional governments. North Nias Regency received Rp23.42 billion, Nias Regency Rp8 billion, South Nias Regency Rp7.95 billion, West Nias Regency Rp5 billion, and Gunungsitoli City Rp9.32 billion.The amount of funding allocated underscores the importance the North Sumatra Provincial Government places on accelerating development across the Nias Islands. Bobby therefore called on regional leaders to ensure that every proposed program has clearly defined objectives and addresses the specific needs of the community.
In addition to accelerating proposals for 2027 BKP funding, the coordination meeting also reviewed the progress of BKP programs for the 2026 fiscal year. The North Sumatra Provincial Government sought to assess programs already underway as well as remaining funding needs for development initiatives.
The Head of the North Sumatra Regional Planning, Research and Innovation Agency, Dikky Anugerah, emphasized the importance of implementing financial assistance in a way that delivers direct benefits to the public.
"We hope the North Sumatra Provincial Government will provide BKP funding in a way that allows the community to directly feel its benefits," Dikky said.The statement underscores the importance of program implementation that is not focused solely on absorbing allocated budget funds, but also on creating tangible benefits for the community. Regional governments must ensure that development programs funded through BKP address the needs of people in their respective areas.
Coordination between the provincial government and district and city administrations is also an important part of program implementation. Through close coordination, authorities can evaluate the implementation of 2026 programs while more accurately planning development needs for 2027.The meeting also provided regional governments across the Nias Islands with an opportunity to present an overview of the development needs in their respective areas. The North Sumatra Provincial Government can subsequently use the information as a basis for preparing and reviewing BKP proposals for the 2027 fiscal year.
In the economic sector, development programs are expected to help strengthen economic activity among residents. At the same time, improving healthcare services is essential to expanding people's access to medical services across the Nias Islands.
Educational infrastructure must also be taken into account so that residents have access to adequate learning and educational facilities. The construction and rehabilitation of schools, which are already among the initiatives supported by 2026 BKP funding, are examples of how public funds can be used to address the basic needs of the community.By submitting 2027 BKP proposals early, regional governments across the Nias Islands can prepare programs based on identified needs. This will allow the provincial government to begin coordination sooner, enabling the programs to be implemented as effectively as possible at the beginning of the fiscal year.
The coordination meeting was attended by North Nias Regent Amizaro Waruwu, South Nias Regent Sokhiatulo Laia, West Nias Regent Eliyunus Waruwu, Nias Regent Yaatulo Gulo, and Gunungsitoli Mayor Sowa'a Laoli.Also in attendance were the Head of the North Sumatra Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, Chandra Dalimunthe, and the Head of the North Sumatra Education Agency, Alexander Sinulingga.
Through the meeting, the North Sumatra Provincial Government and regional governments across the Nias Islands aligned their joint steps to evaluate the implementation of 2026 BKP programs and prepare program proposals for 2027. Accelerating the process is expected to help ensure that development programs funded through BKP can be implemented at the beginning of the fiscal year and deliver benefits to the community more quickly.
