MEDAN | INDATANEWS.COM - North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has called on Persatuan Pemuda Jawa (Pendawa) Indonesia to continue playing an active role in regional development. The community organization is expected not only to maintain solidarity among its members but also to contribute to strengthening the community's economy, particularly through the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
The message was delivered by Acting Secretary of the North Sumatra Provincial Government Timur Tumanggor during the central celebration of Pendawa Indonesia's 27th anniversary. The event was held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall at the North Sumatra Governor's Office on Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro Number 30, Medan.
Timur conveyed Governor Bobby Nasution's message to Pendawa Indonesia officials and members attending the event. According to him, regional development requires support from various elements of society, including community organizations with networks extending to the local community level.
Timur explained that the North Sumatra Provincial Government supports various measures aimed at promoting local economic growth. According to the government, MSMEs play an important role in stimulating community economic activity and creating additional entrepreneurial opportunities.
One of the forms of support, Timur said, is assistance in obtaining halal certification for MSME products. The North Sumatra Provincial Government has provided a free halal certification program. The initiative is intended to help business owners strengthen consumer confidence while expanding opportunities to market their products to broader markets.
"Earlier, the Governor of North Sumatra conveyed a message by telephone that 10,000 halal certificates would be provided free of charge for MSME entrepreneurs," Timur said, conveying the governor's message.
The program is expected to be utilized by MSME entrepreneurs, including members of Pendawa Indonesia and entrepreneurs within its MSME network. Halal certification can help businesses fulfill product-related legal requirements while also opening access to a wider consumer market.
Timur emphasized that strengthening the community's economic conditions cannot depend solely on government programs. Community organizations also have significant opportunities to assist people in developing their businesses, improving their skills and building mutually supportive economic networks.
Therefore, Pendawa Indonesia is expected to make optimal use of its organizational network to encourage people to become more productive and economically independent.
On the occasion, Timur also acknowledged Pendawa Indonesia's 27-year journey. He said the long history of a community organization reflects a continuous process of member development, consistency and the ability to maintain relationships with the community.
He expressed hope that Pendawa Indonesia would continue serving as a bridge between the community and various stakeholders. This role could be realized through stronger communication, broader public participation and activities that provide tangible benefits to the surrounding community.
According to Timur, community organizations hold a strategic position because they interact directly with the public. With this strength, Pendawa Indonesia can assist the government in communicating various programs while also conveying the aspirations and concerns of the community.
The development of North Sumatra, Timur continued, requires the involvement of all elements of society. The government cannot address the region's various development needs on its own. Therefore, cooperation between the government and the community is an important component in achieving regional development goals.
Such cooperation involves the government, community organizations, the business sector, academic institutions, religious leaders, traditional leaders, young people and all segments of society. Each group has its own role, which can complement the contributions of other stakeholders to accelerate development and improve public welfare.
"We hope Pendawa Indonesia will continue to maintain the spirit of togetherness, strengthen the development of the younger generation, increase social awareness and introduce programs that respond to the needs of the community," he said.
The expectation also carries a message that the 27th anniversary should not merely serve as a ceremonial occasion. Pendawa Indonesia is expected to use its new organizational year to expand social activities, community empowerment and economic development programs for its members and surrounding communities.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Central Executive Board of Pendawa Indonesia Ruslan said his organization had established a special unit dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs. The organizational unit is known as UMKM Pendawa Sumut.
Ruslan explained that UMKM Pendawa Sumut was established to promote and assist small-scale entrepreneurs in various areas of North Sumatra. The unit is also expected to contribute to improving members' welfare by developing economic activities based on the potential of each area.
According to Ruslan, strengthening MSMEs is part of Pendawa Indonesia's role in providing direct benefits to the community. The organization is not focused solely on social and cultural activities but also on economic issues related to community welfare.
At the same time, he reminded all Pendawa Indonesia members to maintain solidarity and support one another. Internal unity, he said, is an important foundation for the organization in implementing various programs and building good relationships with the community.
In addition to maintaining relationships among members, Ruslan called on Pendawa Indonesia to continue developing harmonious cooperation with various elements of society. These include the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), regional governments, government agencies and other community groups.
Cross-sectoral cooperation is important so that organizational activities can reach more people and provide greater benefits to the community. Through effective communication, Pendawa Indonesia can participate in various social, cultural and economic empowerment programs.
"Pendawa Indonesia continues to strengthen its position as a community organization focused on social action, cultural preservation and community economic empowerment," he said.
The central celebration of Pendawa Indonesia's 27th anniversary thus served as an opportunity to reinforce the organization's commitment to its role in society.
